NEWS - Opening a new era for BMW, this large electric SUV will be marketed at the end of the year from 86,250 euros.

The great offensive of electric cars about which we have talked so much is finally taking shape.

Several dozen models of this kind are about to hit the market.

All manufacturers are getting into working order (forced) in order to avoid the fines imposed in the event of exceeding the average CO2 emissions set at 95 g / km but also to respond, in the longer term, to the establishment of an essentially electric automobile market.

At BMW, it was decided to accelerate the deployment of its electric range by bringing its initial program forward by two years.

This year, the Munich-based firm will launch two new 100% electric vehicles, bringing the number of vehicles using this technology to four.

In September, BMW will launch a family sedan to compete with the Tesla Model 3. The i4 will be based on the 4 Series GranCoupé.

And at the end of 2021, the iX will point the tip of its hood.

This large SUV intends to position itself at the forefront of the segment of electric leisure vehicles.

Conveying the new formal language of the Bavarian firm, the iX mixes genres.

Its length and width are those of the X5, its height is the same as the X6 and the size of the wheels refers to the X7.

As for the new very vertical grille incorporating the number plate, if it is not unanimous, it is one of the salient features of the new BMW style.

In the case of the iX, it combines with clean lines that are characterized by a flattering aerodynamic Cx of 0.25.

The iX also operates an interior revolution, introducing a new human-machine interface.

Not content to introduce a hexagonal steering wheel, the iX sees its dashboard evolve in depth.

Exit instrumentation and recessed screens.

A large curved digital slab, consisting of a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control screen, is placed on the board treated as a table.

Navigation in the infotainment screen still relies on an iDrive wheel placed on the levitating central tunnel, but it now supports version 8 of the BMW operating system.

Reflecting the electrical architecture, the iX dispenses with the bulky central tunnel, thus creating additional legroom and storage compartments.

BMW will offer two versions at launch: the iX xDrive 40 and the iX xDrive 50. Both versions have two engines, one per axle, making this SUV an all-wheel drive vehicle.

The first model marketed at a price of 86,250 euros announces a power of about 300 horses.

With the 70 kWh battery, the manufacturer claims a range of over 400 km, according to the WLTP standard.

With the xDrive 50 version invoiced 103,500 euros, the driver will have a power of 500 horsepower to reach 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds.

This model will be powered by a battery with a gross capacity slightly over 100 kWh, ensuring a range of over 600 km.

The source of the war, battery recharging has been the subject of special development.

BMW promises that raising the battery from 10 to 80% of its total capacity will take less than 40 minutes.
