the neighboring county sheriff's office said on Twitter.

In footage, the authenticity of which has not been confirmed by authorities, at least three bodies are seen lying on the ground in and around the supermarket, as gunshots ring out.

Dozens of law enforcement officers surrounded the supermarket about half an hour after the first shots.

They had armored vehicles that they positioned at the entrance to the store.

Images broadcast live during the operation by a witness in the parking lot showed at least one person, a man only in sports shorts, being escorted by police out of the store with their hands handcuffed behind the back and apparently slightly injured in the leg.

Later, customers who had been taken to safety outside the store were seated, wrapped in blankets, and interacting with rescuers.
