Greece this evening (Monday) approved the entry of Israeli tourists with a vaccine certificate into its territory, without the need for a corona inspection or an obligation to insulate.

The permit is expected to take effect starting tomorrow, subject to the signing of a government order on the subject, and will include a quota of 10,000 vaccinated Israeli tourists each week.

The announcement was made by Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis to Israel's ambassador to Athens, Yossi Amrani, after approval by the Greek Council of Ministers.

The announcement comes a month after Israel and Greece announced a principled agreement on mutual recognition of vaccine certificates.

Under the agreements, tourists from both countries who are vaccinated for corona, subject to the presentation of an official certificate that they are vaccinated, will not be required to perform a corona examination up to 72 hours before departure.

Vaccinated Israelis who arrive in Greece will also be exempt from a random corona check upon landing, and from an isolation period.

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi then welcomed the move during a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dandias.

"This is an important achievement at this time for the two countries, which will continue to promote the renewal of the route for tourists to enter the two countries," he said.
