The curriculum vitae -or CV- is the cover letter of a person looking for work.

It is the key that opens the door to the second step, which is the interview.

Therefore, it is important that you show

the best version of yourself

.

The CV is not only the first contact with a potential employer but also provides tools to the recruiter that helps them determine who to interview and who not.

Therefore, it is essential to put it together in an intelligent way and that it is interesting for the person who reads it, without what you write stops representing you.

Although during the last year many companies closed or reduced their personnel, during these first months of the year the specialists in Human Resources affirm that the search was reactivated.

María Victoria Pappalardo, is a

talent acuisition specialy

(specialist in talent acquisition) in

Mercado Libre Argentina

and agrees with this position.

"In recent times, the market has opened a lot, the search for juniors, seniority, older people, young people ... in the country there are very good technical profiles for example, and they are highly sought after by foreign companies," he explains.

"During the pandemic, remote work enabled the possibility of considering other types of profiles that are living in the interior or in the provinces, something that could not be done before," he adds.

Job interviews before the pandemic, at Expo Employment 2019.

With more reason then it is necessary to update the curriculum and review some fundamental details.

What should it include?

The CV has to

highlight

the most important aspects of the

academic and professional career

of each person.

With accurate, true and up-to-date data.

Here are the

six most common mistakes made when

putting together a resume and some tips to avoid them:

1. Do not include your professional profile:

it is a paragraph of 5 to 8 lines that summarizes your career, your goals and your strengths.

A short summary of "skills" (soft skills), for example: teamwork, leadership, communication, interpersonal relationships.

The soft activities that you are going to highlight will depend on the type of search you are applying for.

One piece of advice: don't fall for the common ("I work well in a team", "I'm a good partner", etc.) but go for more: "I'm interested in new challenges" "I'm looking for new tools to work with", etc. .

Your professional profile is the best way to show your personal brand.

2. The extension:

less is more.

Include only relevant information and omit data that is not crucial to getting the job.

The resume has to be a cover letter in which the recruiter can see the experience and the tasks that the candidate knows how to perform, but in a very summarized way: with one-sentence items.

Then, in the interview, the applicant will have the possibility to develop and the recruiter, to ask the questions.

The CV must have a page and a half at most, with very specific information.

If you went through a lot of jobs: ask yourself what type of position you are aiming for, if it is commercial, make reference to experiences and skills that have to do with that position.

If you taught math classes, it is not worth putting it in this case.

3. Errors in personal data:

or too many private details.

Marital status or children are data that are no longer required, they are usually asked in some interviews but to get to know people more, in the same way that they ask what they like to do in their free time or where they like to vacation.

It is essential that before sending the CV you check all your personal data, especially that the email address and telephone number are correct because it is the recruiter's way of contacting you.

4. The photo: it

is a mistake both not to include it and to put an inappropriate image.

The photo is a way to generate a closeness with the candidate, through it you can imagine it, to have a more specific image.

That is why it is important that the photo is appropriate to the context, not on a beach or in a bowling alley, not in a suit and tie, dressed for a party, heavily made up or sitting at a desk in front of the computer.

The photo must be of half profile and be presentable, neat, with a good appearance.

5. Too much creativity:

there are some CVs so creative and with so much design that they only make the recruiter not find the information they need.

This is especially the case with design and advertising profiles.

The information that the recruiter is interested in finding is the studies, the position he is in (if he is junior, senior, leader, manager, etc.) and what are the tasks he is currently doing.

And that none of the three is missing.

It is not much use to say that you are a shopping senior if you do not detail the tasks that you perform.

6. Little relevant information:

if it does not have to do with the position you are applying for or it has become obsolete, do not include it.

The same applies to the courses or trainings that you did more than 5 years ago, that info will no longer add up.

The recruiter will focus on what the candidate did at work in the last 8 years and academically in the last 4/5 years ... You have to be honest with yourself, ask yourself: the info I learned 7/10 years ago Is it useful to me today?

If the answer is no, it is irrelevant to put it and also, it will take space within the CV.

To keep in mind:

According to Victoria Pappalardo, the number one recruiting tool today is Linkedin, since it offers the possibility of reaching people from anywhere in the world.

That is why the priority is to have the profile updated.

"It is the first place that personnel recruiters currently review. Linkedin acts as a social network, since there you see minute by minute of work life and the training of people. If you added tasks in your role, if you changed to one new position, include it. The same with the languages and courses that you did, are data that have to be, "he explains.

Before it was used to renew the CV in Word or pdf, now it

is necessary to update Linkedin

.

And if you don't have a profile, you have to think about creating it.

The platform is very simple and friendly to use and even offers tips about the best and most complete way to build the profile.

"The main advice is to keep up to date. Many times you make the mistake of being comfortable and the CV is not updated, the courses and skills are not incorporated," says Pappalardo.

"You do not know when an interesting proposal may arrive that changes your future. Updating your profile takes little time and can lead to other challenges and companies that you would never have imagined."
