The Ministry of Education has set the Directorate of School Theater and Artistic Activities and its subsidiary departments in the Provincial Education Directorates, tomorrow, as the date for the launch of the World Theater Day competition.
Director of School Theater and Artistic Activities Adnan Al-Azrouni pointed out in a statement to SANA that the competition was approved to coincide with the celebration of World Theater Day, which falls on the twenty-seventh of March, but that our celebrations of International Theater Day start from the twenty-third of it until the end of the month to allow the opportunity to watch all shows in all governorates.
He explained that during this year’s competition, eleven theater shows are competing between comedies and tragedies for school theater circles in the governorates. The performances will be evaluated through the central jury that will tour the governorates to see all the shows, starting from Quneitra governorate tomorrow and ending in Lattakia on the 31st. From this March, the results will be announced in a central ceremony that will be held in the seventh month in Damascus.
Al-Azrouni pointed to the launch of the World Dance Day celebration event in conjunction with the World Theater Day competition as an experimental start this year to confirm the active presence in the cultural movement by presenting the folk arts department in school theater circles in the governorates with a dance drama “operetta” that simulates an educational value or idea or Humanity is important.
Al-Azrouni indicated that each department will present this year a theatrical performance for the World Theater Day competition, followed by a dance drama “Folk Art or Expressive Dancing” for the World Dance Day event according to a specific schedule.
