In Emmeringer Amperstrasse, diagonally across from the town hall, construction work for the new fire station is in full swing.
The commanding officer and the club chairman are particularly pleased about two highlights.
However, the project is no longer on schedule and on budget.
Emmering
- Anyone who waits at the red traffic light in Amperstrasse at the level of the old fire brigade equipment house can quickly take a look at the new, gray concrete shell.
This already rises a few meters.
It is the front part of the new fire station.
Construction is currently underway on the first floor.
A “parlor” is to be created on the upper floor, which is also intended as a training room or youth room, explains Mayor Stefan Floerecke during a tour of the construction site.
"The operations center and the club office will be located on the ground floor."
Toilets, showers and technology
Behind the building, parallel to the Amper, you can see the foundation walls of another part of the building.
Here is busy working on the ground floor.
Changing rooms, showers and toilets are planned there, reports Floerecke.
The technology such as the server room, heating and ventilation will move into the first floor.
Highlights: workshop and exercise tower
There will be two highlights in the new building, which commander Robert Klement and the chairman of the fire brigade association Anton Schwarz are particularly pleased about.
"With the new building, we will have a workshop for maintaining the breathing apparatus," explains the commander.
There the equipment can be disinfected and oxygen bottles refilled.
In addition, a six to eight meter high exercise tower will be built behind the building, in the direction of Amper.
"Many exercise scenarios are possible there, such as manhole rescue or proper abseiling," says Klement.
Vehicle hall with six lanes
In the middle of the building plot there is currently still a large gap.
"The vehicle hall will be built here," explains Floerecke.
There will be space for five vehicles next to each other in five lanes, the sixth lane is the car wash.
Two apartments are planned on the second floor of the building.
According to the town hall chief, it has not yet been clarified who will receive this.
"It would be desirable if members of the fire brigade could move in." Ultimately, however, the municipal council makes the decision on the applications.
The firefighters are still housed in a temporary facility on Schwabenbergstrasse for over a year.
"We mustn't complain about that," says Commander Klement.
“We are satisfied with the new building.
The most important thing is that the house is there for the next 50 years. "
The accommodation is well organized by the community, says club chairman Schwarz.
“We even got a club room in the old school building.
Unfortunately, we cannot use it at all, as meetings are prohibited due to the corona pandemic. "
Bad surprise during the demolition
However, the construction of the new fire station is no longer on schedule, says Mayor Floerecke.
The plan was for the building to be ready in March 2022 - the plan is now for the end of 2022. The main reason for the delay is a large amount of asbestos that was found during the demolition work on the old fire brigade building.
The material had to be disposed of at great expense.
The planned costs of 4.5 million euros cannot be maintained either.
"The community is now reckoning with 6.5 million euros," explains Floerecke.
The necessary redesign of the surrounding area has significantly increased costs.
In addition to the Bachwörth side street, the sidewalk along Amperstrasse also has to be partially renewed.
In addition, the traffic light has to be moved.
Because where it currently stands, the emergency vehicles will later drive in and out.
