Heimstettner Strasse in Kirchheim apparently invites you to lawn.

The problem: it leads past a school.

Now the community wants to reduce the speed to 20 km / h.

Kirchheim

- The citizens' meeting in Kirchheim was canceled due to the pandemic, but citizens were still able to submit their applications in writing to the municipality.

One of them was from Markus Kunze.

He criticized the fact that on Heimstettner Straße between elementary and middle school and high school people drove far too fast.

Now the main committee reacted.

Kunze had explained in detail that, in his opinion, the construction site for the new grammar school and the breakthrough from Heimstettner Straße to Räterstraße would drive much faster in the area of the schools.

Because the mobile speed display at the level of elementary and middle school has also been relocated to the point of puncture as a regulation, motorists would no longer stick to Tempo 30 at all.

"The speed limit painted on has also faded, so the dead straight road almost tempts you to race," wrote Kunze.

He therefore called for a speed limit of 20 km / h and the reinstallation of the speedometer at elementary and middle school.

In the December meeting, the municipal council decided that the administration should examine the application and the allegations.

Tempo measurements paint a different picture

This examination came to the result that there is no “authority to issue orders” for speeds below 30 kilometers per hour in the road traffic regulations.

That is why the police have not given a statement so far.

In addition, the assertion that the speed limit was exceeded cannot be clearly proven on the basis of measurements from municipal traffic monitoring.

Since September 2018, the flowing traffic has been monitored at a measuring point in Heimstettner Straße at the level of the elementary and middle school until December 2020 on 21 dates, i.e. almost once a month.

8,642 vehicles were measured, 361 of which were too fast, which corresponds to a share of 4.2 percent.

Of these, 255 cars drove less than 10 km / h too fast, 82 vehicles were 11 to 15 km / h too fast and 23 were between 16 and 20 km / h.

In the proven area, i.e. exceeding the speed of 21 kilometers, there was only one vehicle traveling at 56 km / h.

“If we really would have raced here on a large scale, we would have done something long ago,” said Mayor Maximilian Böltl (CSU).

Christian Zenner's (Greens) proposal to limit the construction site phase to 20 kilometers per hour was accepted with 6: 5 votes.

A statement from the police should be obtained beforehand.

The committee rejected the motion to move the mobile speed display back in front of the school with 6: 5 votes.
