Following a 37-year-old Bitcoin seller who was robbed of about 3.6 million yuan in cash in early January this year, two money changers were defrauded of about 3.85 million yuan in cash when they were trading Bitcoin with others today (23rd).

Regarding successive investors being deceived or robbed during virtual currency transactions, Sun Weikang, co-founder of the virtual currency trading platform MyEthShop, suggested that investors should use a reputable trading platform; when conducting P2P transactions, they must first ask the other party to provide their ID card and address Proof in order to confirm the identity of the other party and avoid large-scale transactions at one time; in addition, if someone claims to buy or sell Bitcoin at a higher than market price, it may be a scammer's trick.

A man was arrested in connection with the case.

The two men met with the "seller" to trade bitcoin at a money changer on King's Road, but after he paid about 3.85 million yuan in cash, the other party immediately fled.

Two virtual currency robberies involving more than 3 million yuan occurred in January

There were two large-scale robberies involving virtual currencies in January today.

A 37-year-old Bitcoin investor surnamed Li, met a South Asian buyer on an online trading platform last year. In the same year, the two sides conducted 5 to 6 Bitcoin transactions.

As of January 3 this year, the buyer introduced another South Asian buyer to Li for the transaction, and Li successfully cashed out 1 million yuan.

The next day, the three traded again. Lee boarded the RV at North Point, and the other party drove to a remote location on the shelter of Shan Chui Court on Tai Tam Road, Chai Wan, for safety reasons.

When Li finished receiving 3.6 million yuan in cash, he immediately transferred 15 bitcoins with his mobile phone. However, after completing the transaction, another private car drove to the car. Three men in the car dragged Li out of the RV and snatched the money from him. 3.6 million yuan in cash, the two cars left after the dust.

After investigation by the police, seven Egyptian and Pakistani men were arrested on the 30th of the same month, including masterminds engaged in the jewelry and watch business. Some of the arrested persons had triad backgrounds.

Also on January 18, there was a robbery involving the transaction of virtual currency "USDT". A 33-year-old female seller surnamed Yin met with the same buyer for the fourth time in an office on Yip Street, Kwun Tong. 450,000 TEDA coins were transferred to the other party by telephone, but when they received about 3.5 million yuan in cash, three men armed with knives and sticks broke in and snatched the cash and mobile phones, and locked the office.

After police investigation, 4 men (22 to 54 years old) were arrested on suspicion of "robbery" and 4 men are at large.

In addition, the police arrested a 35-year-old unemployed man on the 3rd of this month on suspicion of 6 Bitcoin fraud cases from October last year to February this year.

According to the police, some people claimed to buy bitcoin at a higher price than the market price but used a blank check. After the 5 male and 1 female victims did not receive the remittance after the transaction, they knew they were deceived, and the total amount involved was about 500,000 yuan.
