A chemistry teacher just forgot something during an experiment.
Nobody is perfect.
But that had big consequences - pretty big ones, in fact.
Pasewalk - A chemistry teacher carried out an experiment in preparation for class, reports the Neubrandenburg police headquarters.
At around 4.45 p.m. on Tuesday (March 22nd), however, a fire alarm was received in the rescue control center Vorpommern-Greifswald.
A smoke alarm in the Oskar-Picht-Gymnasium Pasewalk (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) had triggered.
Chemistry teacher: experiment triggers disaster control operation
The Pasewalk volunteer fire brigade with 12 emergency services and four fire engines, an alarmed ambulance and four officers from the Pasewalk police station arrived at the grammar school just a few minutes after the emergency call was received, the police said on Tuesday.
Chemistry experiment - forgot important detail
The chemistry teacher's experiment resulted in a deflagration and a slight amount of smoke.
“What was to be expected in the experiment and is usually not a problem,” said the police.
"However, the teacher had forgotten to switch on the smoke extraction system, which is why the smoke spread unintentionally in the classroom and triggered the smoke alarm."
However, no one was harmed in the incident.
There were no classes during the experiment, and there were no students in the building at the time of the assignment.
"Only the chemistry teacher and one other teacher had to leave the high school for a short time," says the press release from the police headquarters.
All rescue workers were able to leave the scene at 5:05 p.m.
