The speech of February 27 of the Maronite Patriarch Mgr Rahi arouses many reactions in the whole of the Lebanese political class, because it calls for the holding of an international conference on Lebanon.

For a country in total bankruptcy which is experiencing unprecedented economic, social, health and security crises, and cracked by an exacerbated community polarization - especially between Sunnis and Shiites - such a conference could represent a lifeline.
The Patriarch sees an international body as the only way to create a favorable environment for the different parties to sit around a table and find a lasting solution to the country's problems.
Unfortunately, once again our country needs to have recourse to an outside arbiter.
