Colombian senator Gustavo Petro said on Twitter this Tuesday that he left a hospital where he had been admitted for a “mild pneumonia”, a product of covid-19.

"At this moment I am fine and without symptoms," wrote the former mayor of Bogotá and former presidential candidate.

This Monday it became known that he, his wife and the youngest of his three daughters tested positive for covid-19.

In a statement released by Petro's wife, it was hinted that the senator had contracted the virus on a trip to Europe that he made "within the period of recesses from legislative activities", where he visited his daughters, "whom he did not see. more than two years ago.

It is unknown where the senator is.

However, the Foreign Ministry of Colombia wrote this Monday on Twitter that the consulates of Florence and Rome, in Italy, have communicated with Petro and his family and “have provided assistance in the support issues required by both the Senator and his family".

Petro has dual Colombian and Italian citizenship.
