The late Homs poets “Abd al-Basit al-Sufi, Wasfi Qurunfali and Abd al-Salam Ayoun al-Soud” were the guests of the literary symposium held by the University Graduates Association in Homs with the participation of a number of writers in the governorate, who shed light on some aspects of the intellectual and social life of these poets.

The symposium titled “The Forgotten Poets of Homs” was initiated by Dr. Jawdat Ibrahim from Al-Baath University by talking about the poet Karnafli, who was born in Homs in 1911 and studied at the Orthodox College but did not complete his education. Then he joined the Survey School and graduated topographically. 1969 The Syrian Merit for Culture Medal, and he died in 1972, when the poet Nizar Qabbani attended an evening special for the late Karnafli.

The writer and researcher Nizar Bodour talked about the poet Abd al-Salam Ayoun al-Soud 1954-1922, who was born to a father who worked as a perfumer and was a friend of poverty and hunger and loved a girl he did not marry, and his poetry belonged to the poetry of the creative romantic school, and in his last days he burned all his papers until the Ministry of Culture in Syria in the 1960s He collects the rest of his poems in a single collection of his.

As for the writer Ghassan Taha, a member of the Arab Writers Union and an old friend of the Sufi poet, he recalled several stages from the life of this poet, who was born in Homs in 1931 and grew up in its schools and obtained a BA in Arabic literature in 1956 and worked in radio and teaching Arabic and was dispatched to an African country until the end of his life. Great in the hearts of his intellectual contemporaries and raced to lament him.

At the end of the symposium, Dr. Jawdat Ibrahim announced his intention to compile and compose a dictionary of Homs poets in cooperation with all bodies, institutions and individuals to provide him with their biographies and the remainder of their productions who did not take their right to fame and spread on the local and Arab arenas.
