Uruguay registered this Monday the day with the most infections and deaths from covid-19 since the pandemic began.
According to government data, the country had 2,700 new cases, bringing the total to 84,230.
Of that number, 68,983 have already recovered.
In terms of deaths, 19 deaths were reported, bringing the accumulated figure to 811.
According to the country's health authorities, this Monday 24 infections with the covid-19 variant identified in Brazil, P.1, were also detected in seven departments of the country.

Uruguayan media report that the presence of the Brazilian mutation of the coronavirus caused the president, Luis Lacalle Pou, to convene a Council of Ministers for this Tuesday.
On the other hand, some 30 medical and scientific organizations in the country issued a joint statement this Monday in which they express their "deepest concern" and urge the Government to take "urgent measures" to control the pandemic.

Organizations' requests include reducing mobility for at least three weeks in all non-essential areas;
opting for teleworking where possible and virtual education;
economic measures "that assist the most vulnerable population and those directly affected by the suspension of their activity";
deepen mass vaccination;
improve the "accessibility and speed of testing processing throughout the population".
So far, more than 330,000 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been applied in Uruguay.
