This opinion is provided for in the framework of the law, passed in February, postponing these elections from March to June due to the active circulation of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Scientists must enlighten the government "
on the state of the Covid-19 epidemic, on the health risks to be taken into account and on the adaptations necessary for the holding of the polls and the electoral campaigns preceding them
", according to the text.
Castex will follow the advice of the Scientific Council
While the country is facing a new epidemic resurgence, Jean Castex had said last week that he would rely "
strictly on the advice of the scientific council
" as to the possibility or not of holding the elections in June.

I am committed to these elections being held, but I do not know what the report will say.
No political calculations, health first,
”he insisted in front of a few journalists.
A new postponement would however require the agreement of Parliament, by means of a bill.
On Monday, associations of elected officials put pressure on the Scientific Council by contesting its legitimacy to question the holding of the elections.
