About 4,600 dunams between Rishon Lezion and Ness Ziona will be defined as open areas, including Iris Hill, which will be declared a nature reserve.

The Central District Planning and Building Committee has decided to entrust a plan for a metropolitan resort area of approximately 5,400 dunams between Rishon Lezion and Ness Ziona.

Of these, about 4,600 dunams will be defined as open areas, including the Givat HaIrosim nature reserve on about 60 dunams.

The decision was made as part of the discussion to change the district outline plan, which designated space for 7 metropolitan resort areas in the Central District.

Planning principles for these areas: preservation of nature and landscape values, connection to the array of open spaces, interface with the built textures, establishing green axes, defining crowd-absorbing areas and maintaining ecological passages for animals.

The location of the resort areas was determined, among other things, by the intensification of development in the Central District and the density of cities.

A comprehensive ecological survey was conducted and special guidelines were established for the preservation of areas of high value.

The plan preserves a link between sensitive areas, especially the Iris Hill via the southwest towards the kurkar hills, which form part of the kurkar ridges of the coastal plain.

There are buildings in the area that are used for activities that do not correspond to the purpose of the agricultural land, and it was decided not to allow their activities.

Areas designated for urban development: Area north of Regional Road 431, east of Herzl Street and west of Road 4. Areas for development have also been added to the north of Ness Ziona east of Weizmann Street.

Central District Planner at the Planning Administration, Guy Kaplan, noted the great importance of the plan for nature conservation in parallel with development.

"The implementation of the plan will provide a solution for the residents, who will enjoy green spaces, while preserving the unique values of nature and landscape for future generations."
