The collective bargaining dispute erupts in Hochbrück: 140 employees go to work.

The union IG Metall has planned further strikes in the district.

Garching - In the metal and electrical industry in Bavaria, the wage conflict is worsening.

For three weeks, after the fourth round of negotiations, there has been a standstill between the parties, the employers' association “vbm” and IG Metall.

The freeze in negotiations set the workers at the machine manufacturer Voith in motion.

They went on strike in front of the factory premises in Hochbrück today.

At 9 a.m., the workers stopped working.

Voith, a machine manufacturer for vehicles, energy production and paper production, employs 400 people, plus 125 contract workers, reported trust body leader Klaus Grosch.

Around 140 workers followed IG Metall's call to strike and pulled out of the personnel office.

From there, the strikers walked along the B 471 to the western entrance of the plant.

The one-sided closure of the federal highway helped the protesting workers to get maximum attention - at least from the drivers.

Road users and sympathizers show solidarity

Individual road users and sympathizers showed their solidarity with the workers, on their banner read: "The rich should pay the crisis."

They demand: secure employment, increase income, shape the future.

In short: the workers are demanding more security for their future (see list below).

Kerem Özbek, 19, is already thinking about the time after his training.

“I'm in my sophomore year now,” he said.

It was his first warning strike.

He was there because he would like to be taken on after completing his training.

"I want a future, everyone wants that."

Daniele Frijia fights with a raised fist

Daniele Frijia is also fighting with a raised fist to ensure that young people are taken on for an unlimited period after their training or dual studies.

Frijia is from IG Metall.

Young professionals are in great demand, especially in the metal and electrical industries.

"But if there is a bit of a crisis, jobs will be cut," he said.

The trade unionist does not want a "Corona generation".

The workers also took to the streets for guarantees to take over junior staff like Özbek.

But there are also issues such as collective bargaining law and zero rounds that the strikers denounce.

"I'm excited about what the employers are doing with us," shouted Klaus Grosch at the crowd.

IG Metall demands: secure jobs and increase income

  • The members of the union are calling for improvements in the terminated collective bargaining regulations to secure employment in the metal and electrical industry.

They want a volume of four percent more money.

This volume is intended to increase income and compensate for loss of income in companies with employment problems when there is too little work for all employees.

It is also about the change due to digitization and the switch to electric cars in the vehicle industry.

  • IG Metall also wants a collective framework for future company collective agreements.

"There, regulations for securing locations and jobs are to be laid down in the individual companies," the union announced on its website.

Concrete investments and products should be laid down in future contracts.

  • In addition, the training in the companies is to be improved and graduates are to be taken on for an unlimited period.

The collective agreement should apply to all trainees - including dual students.

Students are usually excluded from collective agreements, according to IG Metall.

Vbm: "unnecessary public opinion"

The vbm, on the other hand, criticizes the IG Metall strikes as "unnecessary propaganda".

The employers submitted a proposal in mid-February that included a one-off payment as well as a wage increase for the coming year, the association said.

However, the vbm links offers with the agreement of an “automatic differentiation to reduce costs” for companies in crisis.

IG Metall sees this as an attack on collective bargaining law.

The machine manufacturer Voith headed by plant manager Steffen Krippendorf did not comment on the strikes.

As of the editorial deadline, inquiries remained unanswered.

Krippendorf sits on the board of the employers' association bayme, an offshoot of the vbm.

In any case, the IG Metall strikes will continue tomorrow in Pullach.

Virtually over the Internet at the industrial group Linde.
