Where to sleep in Berlin for less than 150 € a night? Our ten stylish hotels

2021-03-23T06:07:54.546Z

Bohemian and creative, the German capital offers a unique spirit even in its hotel industry. The welcome can be as friendly as lässig (relaxed) to the point, sometimes, of surprising. Here are ten friendly, designer, unusual or ecological establishments.

Hotel AMO by Amano, underground chic

Do not look for the reception on the ground floor: it is in the basement like the breakfast room and the bar.

It is accessed by a glass pavilion in the middle of the courtyard.

From an imposed technical constraint, the architects have made it a funny singularity.

The atmosphere ?

Obviously subdued, modern with a semblance of retro.

The 93 elegant rooms, overlooking the courtyard or the street, are dressed in blue and green tones and copper elements.

The beautiful ceiling heights, typical of Berlin buildings from the end of the 19th century, breathe life into spaces, the smallest of which are 13 square meters.

The hotel opened in 2019 in the Mitte district.

The room to book:

the 507 in the "Comfort" category and the 505 in the "Superior" category, both bathed in light thanks to a skylight.

The price:

night from 70 € by booking early enough in "Early Bird".

Hotel AMO by Amano, Friedrichstrasse 113, 10117 Berlin, Germany.

The Circus Hotel, trendy green

The Circus Hotel was completely renovated in 2020. The Circus Hotel / Photo press

Even a little more ecological, local and design… Renovated from top to bottom in 2020, The Circus Hotel is getting a new look and giving a facelift to its 64 rooms overlooking Rosenthaler Platz (Mitte) or its courtyard.

Draped in cheerful colors, some matching the wallpapers, they invite to sweet nights on Birkenstock mattresses.

The hotel relies on

made in Germany

, even

made in Berlin

through many brands (Café de Vote Coffee; teas from Paper & Tea; uniforms from Hannes Roether ...).

Some are sold in the small shop.

The renovation has (finally!) Allowed the installation of an air conditioning system chosen from among the most durable - far from a luxury in scorching summers.

The hotel offers bicycle rental and almost tailor-made walking routes, suggested by the very friendly team.

The Circus Hotel also schedules several cultural events.

The room to book:

the 401, the only one to have a balcony from which you can see the famous Berlin TV tower.

The price:

from 105 € (average price 130 €).

The Circus Hotel Rosenthaler, Strasse 1, 10119 Berlin, Germany.

The Student Hotel Berlin, students of all ages

An Executive Queen Room at the Student Hotel.

The Student Hotel / Photo press

Students,

businessmen

in suits and ties, young startupers in jeans sneakers and even grandparents… The Student Hotel welcomes open minds.

The concept ?

A multiple offer: accommodation specially designed for students, hotel rooms and studios for long stays ... with a restaurant, a bar (often lively), a games area with ping-pong table, co-working, a gym (which you reserve one hour for yourself depending on current sanitary measures), bicycle rental, a mini-boutique ... In summer, the hotel organizes cinema sessions in its courtyard.

The structure has 475 rooms in total.

It brews!

Also the self-check-in was essential.

Rest assured, a member of the team is there to help if needed.

The rooms, simple but with stylish details, are a short walk from Alexanderplatz.

The room to book:

ask for a room on the 8th floor if possible for the view (and peace).

The price:

from 72 € per night (non-refundable).

The Student Hotel Berlin, Alexanderstrasse 40, 10179 Berlin, Germany.

Lulu Guldsmeden, Danish enclave

The Lulu Guldsmeden hotel is an enclave of peace and quiet in the heart of Berlin.

Lulu Guldsmeden / Photo press

Potsdamer Strasse has a long history of prostitution and trafficking.

Ten years ago, the streets took a new turn with the arrival of Berlin fashion guru Andreas Murkudis, who set up his large boutique in a backyard there.

Very quickly, others followed him like Fiona Bennett (known for "overseeing" the known and less known faces) or even the Paul Smith and Acne brands as well as contemporary art galleries.

But the street has retained its roughness where different worlds sometimes rub against each other.

The Lulu Guldsmeden hotel then appears as an escape, an enclave of softness and calm.

Under dizzying ceilings, its 81 rooms

combine

Balinese touches with

Danish

hygiene

- the Guldsmeden brand comes from the land of the Vikings.

There are also some pleasant surprises such as a swing (in some rooms).

As for the restaurant, no compromise: it only serves organic products and drinks.

The room to be reserved:

n ° 7 in the "standard" category, with a small terrace in the courtyard.

The price:

Hüttenpalast, glamping in the city

"Dübener Ei", a classic, egg-shaped model from the East German era.

Glamorous camping in Berlin?

Two friends, Silke Lorenzen and Sarah Vollmer, launched this unusual idea ten years ago in the district of Neukölln, still far from its current gentrification.

Under two large halls, caravans from the 1960s and 1970s are parked near the wooden cabins, made to measure in a bohemian decoration, sometimes kitsch, sometimes seaside or mountain.

The result is a schoolboy atmosphere that brings together several generations of urban “campers”.

Forget privacy: the walls of the "rooms" are thin.

We can therefore hear our neighbors, who, for the most part, take precautions to make as little noise as possible when entering and leaving.

You have a cup of tea in front of your caravan or in the courtyard where the free-standing bathtubs have been transformed into planters.

Ideal with friends or family because you can book the entire hall.

As for showers and toilets, they are to be shared… As at the campsite.

The community spirit is not to all tastes, classic rooms with their own bathroom are available.

But the simplicity of their decoration is almost disappointing.

A room, overlooking the street, is dedicated to breakfast.

The caravan to book:

“Dübener Ei”, a classic egg-shaped model from the time of East Germany.

Time travel guaranteed.

The price:

overnight stay for one or two people from € 70 in a caravan and from € 70 in a double room.

Vienna Townhouse Berlin, west side

The Vienna Townhouse Berlin was also renovated in 2020. Vienna Townhouse Berlin / Photo press

Charlottenburg is said to be the new "Mitte".

This vibrant district has a host of restaurants and bars, as well as the very popular C / O Berlin, with excellent photography exhibitions, and the Helmut Newton Foundation.

Which are a stone's throw from the Vienna Townhouse Berlin.

Renovated in 2020, the hotel houses 47 “studios” of four sizes with warm colors and a contemporary look.

They are equipped with a kitchenette, handy in times of pandemic.

From the hotel, you can easily explore the other neighboring districts, Schöneberg, Wilmersdorf and Tiergarten, unless you warm up your credit card in the shops of the famous Ku'damm (Kurfürstendamm) which is not far away.

The room to book: "

Ballade Comfort" for its Berlin view on a garden.

The price:

overnight stay for two people from 89 €.

Vienna Townhouse Berlin, Goethestrasse 87, 10623 Berlin, Germany.

Linnen, the

Spanish Inn style

Linnen, a small charming hotel, with a mottled decor, above a tea room.

Linnen / Photo press

The address is more of a friendly inn than a hotel.

A desire of the two owners who are committed to keeping the premises intimate.

Perhaps also because the five rooms, all different, have taken place in an old apartment?

There is therefore a "house" atmosphere that goes hand in hand with a personalized welcome.

Do you have Berlin friends?

They can join your breakfast by notifying reception the day before.

Linnen also offers three serviced apartments.

All a stone's throw from the famous Mauerpark (and its flea market) and a short stroll from the vibrant Kulturbrauerei.

The room to book:

n ° 4, the smallest and also the quietest and most cozy.

The price:

double room from € 95 (non-refundable).

Linnen, Eberswalder Strasse 35, 10437 Berlin, Germany.

Michelberger, arty spirit

Michelberger Hotel, a boutique hotel named after its young creator, Tom Michelberger, which was designed by Werner Aisslinger, German star of architecture.

Philipp obkircher

More than a hotel, it is a place of life.

The Michelberger has established itself in ten years as a must-see on the Berlin cultural scene through its concerts, festivals, yoga sessions, debates ... Its restaurant has become a festive meeting place for Berliners and passing visitors. .

Its menu is largely organic and the products come from the Michelberger farm in Brandenburg.

Putting down your bags here therefore amounts to embracing a state of mind, open and creative.

The rooms are the best example, offering seven categories (12 to 50 m2), for the solo traveler to music groups to families.

In 2019, the fourth floor of the building was transformed to create new rooms.

They borrow from the aesthetics of the 1950s and 1960s mixing terrazzo and wood.

We sleep on organic rubber mattresses (a joy!) - the other rooms have mattresses in Lyocell, a durable fiber made from eucalyptus.

A duvet and down menu is available.

The hotel is a short walk from the last remains of the Berlin Wall, now an open-air gallery.

The room to book:

we love one of the Luxus rooms with large industrial-style windows overlooking Warschauer Strasse (a picture of Berlin) on the 4th floor or a Hideout room with an individual sauna and a huge bath… But there, the prices go up ...

The price:

"Cozy" double room from € 80.

Michelberger, Warschauer Strasse 39-40, 10243 Berlin, Germany.

Sir Savigny, chic dandy

Sir Savigny, a very surprising, sought-after and very pleasant design hotel.

Sir Savigny / Press photo

Who is Sir Savigny?

A dandy for sure!

In his Charlottenburg hotel, the reception is located in the library.

If the check-in is a bit long, we leaf through a book on design, photography or architecture… Everyone stands guard on the shelves.

The library is the heart of the hotel.

From there, Sir Savigny can see his winter garden with its open fireplace, lounge, and bar The Butcher.

It is also here that the generous breakfast buffet is laid out on the long table.

The 44 rooms and suites are upstairs, dressed in dark colors, velvets and leather, vintage rugs, and hardwood floors.

A neocontemporary cabinet of curiosity in a way.

Note: most of the rooms are not very large.

Be careful with large suitcases when there are two of us.

The room to book:

a room in the Sir Suite category, bathed in natural light, large and equipped with a bathtub in the middle of the room.

Ask for the one that has a balcony with a large balcony overlooking the winter garden.

The price:

double room from 130 € for "Sir Petit".

Sir Savigny, Kantstrasse 144, 10623 Berlin, Germany.

Phone.

: +49 30 21 78 26 38.

Max Brown Ku'Damm, democratic design

For the price, the room is perfect, the bed comfortable, the equipment minimal but of high quality.

Steve herud

Let’s be honest.

Despite the famous Ku'damm at the end of the street, the Max Brown Ku'damm gives the impression of being a little out of the way.

It will therefore be necessary to walk a little to taste the pleasures of the 893 Ryōtei table or that of FunkyFish in the less touristy part of the city.

Or you can simply stay at the hotel and enjoy breakfast 24 hours a day.

Brilliant idea, the Benedict restaurant offers a breakfast with flavors from the four corners of the world, in other words a journey of the taste buds: New York-style eggs Benedict, croque madame, bagels and avocado, pancakes, muesli ... This is a good reason to wake up in one of the 81 light-toned rooms at the Max Brown.

Delicious details are distilled there: basketball net (with a fabric ball) to pass the time;

Crosley turntable to listen to one of the vinyls chosen by the Unique Records label;

interior shutters replacing curtains ...

The room to book:

n ° 519, the XXL room measuring 55 m2 and which can also be transformed into a meeting room.

Some rooms on the 5th floor have a balcony.

The price:

from 93 €.

Max Brown Ku'damm, Uhlandstrasse 49, 10719 Berlin, Germany.
