Corona mutant B.1.1.7: Vaccination hope lapsed? Worrying herd immunity study

The corona vaccination is the central means against the spread of the coronavirus.

But apparently more efforts are needed, as a study shows.

London - The third wave has reached Europe.

The corona virus is currently picking up speed again, the number of new infections is increasing rapidly.

Corona: British mutation like a fire accelerator

The British corona mutation B.1.1.7 acts like a fire accelerator.

It ensures that the virus spreads much faster, which apparently particularly affects younger people.

In this part of the population almost everyone in this country is still unvaccinated.

Despite the sluggish vaccination campaign in Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel had given the motto in the fight against the corona virus.

You have to “vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate”, that should also be done promptly by the general practitioners in their practices.

But does vaccination alone help?

A new British study is skeptical.

According to the researchers, a desired herd immunity in Great Britain cannot have a positive influence on the corona numbers.

At least not without further measures.

Corona mutant B.1.1.7: Herd immunity through vaccination does not help without AHAL rules

"Even if everyone over the age of 50 is vaccinated, strong measures are still required to prevent flare-ups," the study says.

The AHAL rules would have to remain in addition.

The British researchers believe that if one were to refrain from keeping their distance, hygiene rules, mask and regular ventilation in the case of herd immunity, the consequences would be fatal.

The World Health Organization (WHO) expects herd immunity to be achieved in 60 to 70 percent of those vaccinated.

The study from Great Britain went through various scenarios in which there is herd immunity but all corona measures would have been abolished.

And the results are terrifying.

The researchers even assume an additional 21,400 corona deaths within the British population with a vaccination rate of 85 percent.

According to the study, with 60 percent vaccinated you would be almost 100,000 dead.

Corona mutant: Lauterbach supports the results of the British study

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach also supported this thesis on Twitter.

"If we were to drop all AHAL rules after vaccinating all those willing to vaccinate, many would die," wrote Lauterbach in relation to the study.

But not only here is a great risk, a slow rate of vaccination and a lack of willingness to vaccinate within the population could also have dire effects.

The UK scientists fear that the third wave might not have been the last.

If it is not possible to administer the vaccine doses to people quickly enough, the risk of further corona waves increases.

And they would then probably have a lot more fatalities than the previous ones.
