Two months after the vaccination against covid-19 began in Ecuador amid criticism, setbacks and judicial investigations, President Lenín Moreno admitted that there is no official vaccination plan to inoculate the population.

Moreno insisted that the former Minister of Health Juan Carlos Zevallos, who resigned at the end of last February, did not design a vaccination plan as announced in recent months with the title "Plan Vacunarse Ecuador."

"We thought it did exist because on more than one occasion it was stated in the media, but it was simply only in the head of the minister (Juan Carlos Zevallos)," Moreno said this Tuesday during a visit to a hospital in Guayaquil.

The new Minister of Health, Mauro Falconí, who was appointed to that position last week, corroborated President Moreno's information by indicating that there was no formal vaccination plan in Ecuador and that he had to dedicate himself to structuring a plan in 72 hours. .

"We have not found a structured vaccination plan, we have not found data that assures us to maintain a plan or continue a plan," Falconí told the media in Guayaquil.

Former Minister Juan Carlos Zevallos, who is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office for the alleged commission of crimes against the public administration, spoke on Monday through a statement released by his lawyer in which he admits that there were mistakes in the vaccination process in Ecuador .

"What could there be errors in this complex scenario?

Of course yes.

Today we see that in some cases we are wrong when the government invites people who we believed needed the vaccine to carry out their duties, "Zevallos said in the document, referring to senior officials, businessmen, certain journalists, media owners and others. who received the vaccine against covid-19 when they were not due.

"I regret the delay in providing explanations to the country because I understand the reactions generated and I understand the sensitivity of the population," Zevallos added in the statement.

President Lenín Moreno on Tuesday justified the vaccination of some of his ministers considering that it was a matter of State security, since the president's environment is the one who has a physical disability and is an elderly adult.

According to the Ministry of Health, as of Tuesday, more than 140,000 people have received the two doses of the covid-19 vaccine and the first dose more than 38,000 people.

Ecuador has more than 17 million inhabitants.
