Lunch in the Kirchdorfer Kinderhaus had to be stopped in mid-January.

Now it was time to find new solutions for the food supply.

Kirchdorf

- The topic drew numerous interested parties to the latest municipal council meeting in the Kirchdorfer school gymnasium: We are talking about the application by the children's home and school administrators Regina Elzenbeck (CSU / FW) and Silvia Milburn (Greens) to optimize the children's home's resources.

Because lunch there has not been working since mid-January.

Due to the pandemic restrictions, the tasks of the educational staff are becoming more and more time-consuming, for example due to group splits in restricted regular operations.

Since the preparation of lunch is an additional task for educational staff, which is also not part of the pedagogical tasks, this offer was out of necessity "cut off" - this is how the speakers' request describes it.

In plain language: Meals are no longer prepared, but parents are asked to bring food with them.

The supervision has suffered

In addition, the supervisory situation was already tense before the pandemic, for example when staff were sick.

According to the letter, children were then under reduced supervision.

Also because lunch should have been prepared as well.

The wish of Elzenbeck and Milburn: An additional hourly worker should be provided to feed the now more than 200 children in the children's home, after-school care and lunch care.

What gave the matter some impetus was a survey in the kindergarten as to whether parents wanted warm food despite the restricted regular operation.

71 percent of parents answered yes to this question.

Mayor defends employees

Mayor Uwe Gerlsbeck (CSU) pointed out, however, that one hour would probably not be enough because it would also involve post-processing processes, such as washing up.

Here, according to the town hall chief, fundamental changes are needed.

He did not want to leave the accusation that children were not being adequately cared for: the employees did a very good job, but he couldn't help it “if three aren't there”.

“We absolutely have to go back to the basic structures,” stressed Elzenbeck, in order to calm down what, in her opinion, were heated emotions.

Difficult to find staff

Gerlsbeck also knew that more and more children wanted lunch in the facilities, and that was increasing steadily.

In other municipalities, the need is covered by several hourly workers.

However, personnel is rather difficult to find in this regard per se.

The mayor also made it clear: His request was not that the teachers should continue to be responsible for lunch.

Elisabeth Hörand (CSU / FW) recalled a council discussion from 2018. At that time, the idea of hiring a housekeeper to relieve the educational staff was already in the room.

Hörand's suggestion: For the very short-term solution, the cleaning staff could also be asked whether they would like to help with the catering.

What surprised Milburn was the fact that in Kirchdorf the educational staff are still responsible for the meals - even the district administration was amazed.

Two candidates already in view

Short, medium and long-term solutions are now to be found in order to put the hot lunch problem on a stable footing.

"I've already had two ladies in mind," said Gerlsbeck.

Since the budget has been discussed in advance but not yet adopted, positions are to be determined for it.

The decision was made unanimously.

The corona pandemic is also having an impact on childcare in Nandlstadt.

The market is therefore now adapting the fee statutes.
