Italy has criticized Turkey's withdrawal from the treaty to protect women from domestic violence and the promotion of gender equality, considering it a dangerous step backward.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi told the Italian Senate on the eve of the hypothetical European summit that “Turkey’s abandonment of the Istanbul Agreement represents a dangerous step backward, as protecting women from violence and in general defending human rights in all countries is a basic European value, and I can say More than that, it is an identity for the European Union. ”
Draghi said, "The European Union needs to work on concrete proposals for a positive agenda with Turkey that favors a constructive dynamic also from the perspective of regional stability."
Although the Turkish regime does not keep official statistics on the killing of women, the data of the “Crimes Against Women” website showed that 1964 women have been killed in Turkey since 2010, and the World Health Organization has revealed that 38 percent of Turkish women are exposed to domestic violence.
