“Please listen to us”: Emotional cry for help from Merkel's favorite restaurant - it's about existence

Angela Merkel's favorite restaurant is now sending a last call for help to the Chancellor.

Berlin - Five months ago, Germany's gastronomy had to fold the tables up, but the industry is now down.

The despair of the hosts grows from day to day, there is no perspective.

Because they were again not listened to at the most recent Prime Minister's Conference, but also because promised help has not been received for months, the operator of Angela Merkel's favorite restaurant is now uttering an emotional cry for help in the direction of the Chancellor: "Please listen to us!"

Like his industry colleagues, Simon Lukic has been fighting lockdown windmills since November.

His Italian restaurant "Simon" in Berlin Mitte is one of the most famous in the capital.

The two highest decision-makers in the pandemic also come and go here: Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (both CDU) are Lukic's regular guests.

Desperate call for help to Merkel: Gastronomy is simply ignored

In the past few days, Spahn and Merkel have not given a really sovereign picture.

The polls of the governing parties are in a nosedive.

In an interview with

, Simon Lukic explains why this is so.

“What politics lacks is operational experience in many areas,” he says.

And yet one ignores all constructive solutions from companies and associations in the Berlin government building.

By solution approaches, Simon Lukic means the numerous hygiene concepts that he, his colleagues and the relevant associations have worked out over the past few months.

At the forefront is the German Hotel and Restaurant Association Dehoga.

"After yesterday's resolutions, despair and fear of the future are growing in the hospitality industry," said Dehoga President Guido Zöllick on Tuesday after the corona summit.

Fast financial compensation for the failures caused by the state - many restaurateurs have not even received the November aid - are now the bare minimum.

Before Easter, Dehoga President Zöllick expects further details on the so-called "supplementary aid instrument", which was decided at the most recent corona summit, but not explained in more detail.

Zöllnick demands that a specific opening schedule must be submitted to the industry by April 12 at the latest.

According to Dehoga, more than 70 percent of the companies fear for their existence.
