Algerian journalist Khaled Drareni, sentenced to a heavy prison sentence, will be retried after the Supreme Court on Thursday accepted the cassation appeal presented by the defense, one of his lawyers told AFP.

The Supreme Court overturns the decision.
The defense appeal (in cassation) has been accepted, so Khaled Drareni will be retried,
”explained Mr. Abdelghani Badi.

Become the symbol of the fight for press freedom in his country, Khaled Drareni, imprisoned in March 2020, benefited from a presidential pardon last month and has since been on bail.
A correspondent for TV5Monde and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in Algeria, he was sentenced on September 15 to two years in prison for having covered a demonstration of the pro-democracy movement of Hirak.
Khaled Drareni, 40, was prosecuted for "
inciting unarmed assembly
" and "
undermining national unity
".
The journalist has always proclaimed his innocence and decided to appeal "
in the name of morals and ethics
", according to his lawyers.
