The city of Penzberg is now looking for a place for a community garden in which Penzbergers can sow and harvest together.

There are already suggestions: for example Gut Hub and the Berghalde.

The question, however, is whether there is enough interest in such a garden.

There are now Penzberg community gardens in many places.

In cities, this type of gardening together under the catchwords “urban gardening” or “urban gardening” is the trend.

The faction of “Penzberg together” (PM) had, as reported, recently applied for an urban area to be made available in Penzberg for this purpose.

The Penzberg city council took a first step on Tuesday evening.

The CSU expressed skepticism.

In the end, however, the committee voted unanimously to first examine urban green spaces to see whether there was “a centrally located and easily accessible area for this purpose”.

In the discussion, Gut Hub, the Berghalde, the area of the railway arch and two parcels of the Breitfilz allotment garden had previously been proposed.

In addition, according to the decision, the city wants to launch a call to sound out whether there is any interest in the population at all.

Schools should also be asked.

"Penzberg together" had applied for a community garden

At the meeting, Anette Völker-Rasor (PM) stated that the project pursues ecological and social goals.

She described it as a piece of the puzzle for more greenery and community in the city.

You have also heard of the first interested parties, she said.

According to her, the costs for the city are “within a manageable range”.

That is why they asked six garden communities with areas between 80 and 2000 square meters.

According to her, the investments are about water tanks and raised beds.

The running costs would amount to an average of 1000 euros per year.

Greens: A herb garden could also be considered

Jack Eberl (FLP) rated the proposal as fundamentally positive.

But it was important for him to know what the city would expect in terms of start-up financing and follow-up costs.

He also recommended bringing the city's sponsors on board.

Kerstin Engel (Greens) also welcomed the garden proposal.

You've already had this thought yourself, she said.

A needs assessment is important.

If the interest is not enough, since many people already have a garden or allotments, the city should try a herb garden maintained by the building yard, in which citizens can harvest small quantities of herbs, suggested Engel.

CSU “more than skeptical” - club should operate the facility

Christian Abt (CSU) said on the other hand that his parliamentary group was “more than skeptical”.

He put forward the assumption that some sow and plant, but strangers would then get “the radishes”.

He also questioned whether a suitable inner-city area could be found.

As a prerequisite for approval, Abt said that an association should operate the facility and assume responsibility.

Armin Jabs (BfP) spoke of a “fundamentally good thought”.

The only question is whether enough people are interested.

Should this be the case, his group could imagine agreeing to a probationary period of two years.

Jabs also suggested using two parcels of the Breitfilz leisure gardens as a location.

SPD suggests Gut Hub and Berghalde as possible locations

Elke Zehetner (SPD) also made suggestions for the location.

The community garden could be built on the Berghalde, where the vineyard used to be and later orchard trees were planted, or on Gut Hub.

She also recommended involving the Bund Naturschutz or the Horticultural Association.

Adrian Leinweber (SPD) advised to clarify whether the schools are interested.

In Penzberg's twin town Tempelhof-Schöneberg, he said, a community garden will be used “as a green classroom for teaching on living objects”.

Ute Frohwein-Sendl (PM) warned at the end to start with a club structure right away.

"We mustn't complicate this".

Such requirements could be a deterrent, she said.

“An association can come into being later.” That’s how it stayed: At first, the city will only inquire about interest and examine potential locations.
