A man in his 40s was killed in a fire that broke out today (Thursday) in an apartment on Tamarim Street in Kiryat Gat.
Firefighters from the Kiryat Gat and Ashkelon stations who were called to the scene began operations to put out the fire and locate trapped people.
So far, a 60-year-old woman who was lightly injured by smoke inhalation has been removed.
The apartment where the fire broke out is located on the first floor of a three-story residential building.
"During the searches of the burning apartment, a lifeless trapped person was found, who was evacuated by MDA forces who were present at the scene - and there he was pronounced dead," the Southern District Fire and Rescue Service said.
District Commander Tepser Shmulik Friedman has set up a special investigation team to find out the circumstances of the fire.
MDA paramedic Roi Hezi: "When we arrived on the street, we joined the fire brigade that was operating in the building. During the fire and during their scans, a man in his 40s was found in one of the apartments, unconscious with severe burns. After medical tests we have no choice but to determine his death. A 60-year-old woman who was rescued from another apartment in the building was treated on the spot with concentrated oxygen and evacuated to the hospital in a stable condition. "
