From April there is a new way to get a driver's license.

The focus is on driving with an automatic transmission - against the backdrop of the trend towards e-mobility.

The first driving schools in the district are already teaching with electric vehicles.

District -

The new key number in the driver's license is called B197.

It offers the possibility of driving a switching car - even though the driving test was taken in an automatic car.

Up until now, schoolchildren had to learn to drive a switch car in order to be able to drive a switch car. Those who choose the new combi training only have to complete ten hours of driving in a switch car.

Then the driving instructor takes a so-called shifting competence diagnosis - a quarter of an hour's drive in which he checks whether the student can handle a manual transmission.

The rest of the training and the driver's license test take place in a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

The background to this is the trend towards e-mobility: electric vehicles have no gear shift.

The new training path is not intended to replace conventional training, but to complement it - at least for the time being.

A driving school already has an e-car in its vehicle pool

The managing director of the Brummi-Fit driving school in Miesbach, Sebastian Trescher, already teaches with an electric vehicle.

That is - just like the new driver's license - contemporary.

“This will advance e-mobility.

The pupil then knows: This is the state of the art, this is how you charge the cars, care must be taken. "

The limited range of electric cars is not a problem for Trescher: “If I avoid high speeds and the outside temperature is over ten degrees, I can drive 400 to 420 kilometers.

So I can use it for a normal day. "

Trescher does not think that every driving school is now obliged to switch to electric cars.

“If a driving school has the opportunity to buy an e-vehicle, then that's great.

But certainly not a must. "

The new driver's license is definitely an advantage for the learner drivers: "If a student has problems with his motor skills, that's a great thing." The student can initially concentrate exclusively on driving and then, when a certain level of safety has been achieved, that Learn to switch.

"In this way, you can relieve insecure students a lot of stress and fear at the beginning."

The basic idea is to promote alternative drives

The owner of the Fahrwerk driving school in Holzkirchen, Ludwig Christof, also believes that the innovation will make it easier for students to learn to drive: “Of course we have no experience, but we are hoping for a lot from the new license.” Andreas Thaler runs a driving school in Miesbach .

He says: “The basic idea behind the innovation is to promote alternative drives.

In terms of technology, electric vehicles work differently than combustion engines and therefore do not need a manual transmission. ”Nevertheless, Thaler does not want to buy an electric car for the time being.

“I am not yet convinced of the cars for various reasons.” One reason for his skepticism is the car's battery life.

“I won't get through the day with that.

And as long as I can't even recharge quickly, I don't know how to do reasonable lessons with the current state of technology. ”But as soon as that changes, he would also like to add an electric vehicle to the driving school pool.

The owner of the Benkwitz driving school in Rottach-Egern, Christian Stadler, has concerns that the acquisition of a driving license will be easier for the students, but not cheaper.

"It's certainly different in the city, but in the country, the students don't need that long to learn to switch." He calculated that and came up with the same number of hours as in the normal training path in class B. " Sure, the test is easier, but certainly not cheaper. "

The new driver's license is easier, but not necessarily cheaper

That is why he does not offer the driver's license directly in his driving school.

“If the students say of their own accord that they want to take the new training path, then of course that is not a problem.

But especially if someone wants to get a truck or bus license after their driving license, then the B197 does not make sense. "
