President Bashar al-Assad directed the Council of Ministers on the sixteenth of this month to provide a financial aid to the Student Credit Fund account with a value of five billion and two hundred million pounds, so that the fund’s capital would be six billion Syrian pounds, with the aim of enabling the fund to increase the monthly loan value for students to 40,000 pounds And increase the personal loan for students to the amount of 300 thousand pounds.

Head of the National Union of Syrian Students at Al-Baath University, Ali Hammadi, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that increasing the value of the monthly and personal student loan is of great importance in the lives of university students and its positive repercussions will contribute to reducing their financial burden, pointing out that the student credit loan came to support the most needy students and provide They have the opportunity to follow up on their education.

In turn, Nora Maarouf, head of the branch of the Public Authority for Student Credit Fund at Al-Baath University, explained that the loan is given to students of general and parallel education only, as the monthly loan of 40 thousand is granted for a year except for the three summer months, and it is not granted to graduation years students. As for the personal loan of 300 thousand pounds, it is granted once and to students. Recent years in their specializations to be in support of their graduation projects.

Maarouf indicated that the Ministry, in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students and the Board of Directors of the Student Credit Fund, has set the standards and principles according to which the differentiation will be made between students who wish to benefit from monthly and personal loans according to an accurate electronic comparison indicating that the criteria include the nature of the student’s specialization, whether he is studying in an applied college or college. The theory or technical institute and the criterion for academic excellence and the social status of the student’s family in terms of the number of its members, or if the father is alive or dead, or if the student is a person with a disability.

Regarding the mechanism of repayment of the loan, Maarouf said that the student who receives a loan of 40 thousand pounds per month begins to pay back two years after graduation and without any interest. As for the loan of 300 thousand, it begins to be repaid after a month of benefiting in installments for a period of 30 months, that is, at a rate of 10 thousand every month and without interest as well.

The students of Al-Baath University also had their opinions about the student credit loan and their benefit from it, as the medical student Hanan Al-Ali pointed out the importance of raising the value of student loans in light of the current economic situation that imposed on families a lot of financial burdens, especially those that have many children in universities.

Among the students of the College of Civil Engineering, Muhammad Khadour said that increasing the value of the monthly loan from 5 thousand to 40 thousand Syrian pounds, without interest, helps us as students to provide the requirements for university education, especially in engineering majors that need to buy many drawing tools whose prices have recently increased, while Abeer Khallouf drew attention. He pointed to the importance of observing these loans in granting them to a number of criteria, including specialization and the social status of the student’s family, which contributes to achieving the desired benefit from them, explaining that they will apply to benefit from these loans, especially that they are from the countryside and cost a lot of expenses daily.

Student at the College of Dentistry, Heba Al-Hassan, stressed the importance of raising the value of student loans, especially for dental students whose specialty requires the purchase of a lot of dental equipment, which helps them reduce the financial burden on their families.

In As-Suwayda, the director of the Student Credit Bank branch in the governorate, Hassan Ghazlan, confirmed that all measures have been taken and the requirements have been provided to start accepting applications to benefit from loans as of next Sunday, as the general administration of the bank will be provided with the names of the applicants daily to be accepted according to the preference specified for this purpose.

Regarding the procedures followed to obtain the loan, the director of the Student Credit Bank branch at Tishreen University, Amal Sannin, explained that it includes filling out a form for obtaining the loan, and the loan is delivered immediately, and requests are exempt from all taxes and fees, while it is not permissible to combine the two loans, i.e. the student is entitled to obtain only one loan. To choose the loan he wants.

In Deir al-Zour, the director of the Student Credit Bank at the University of the Euphrates, Muhammad al-Aloush, confirmed that the bank is ready to provide loans to students as of next Sunday, indicating that a work plan has been developed in cooperation between the bank, the University of the Euphrates and the branch of the National Union of Syrian Students that includes forming groups of volunteer students to support the bank at work In terms of receiving students wishing to obtain a loan, explaining the instructions and procedures for obtaining the loan, the mechanism for submitting applications, obtaining it, and the method of repayment.

Under Legislative Decree No. 4 of 2021, issued on the 23rd of this month, student loans granted by the Student Credit Fund were exempted from all fees and stamps.
