The Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office submitted a request to the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court this afternoon (Thursday) to amend the indictment in the case of Yarin Sharaf, and to attribute rape offenses to him, and accordingly to transfer the case to the District Court. A protest took place over the severity of the indictment against Sharaf, who insisted on her husband's offense without consent, claiming it was considered "too lenient."

The decision was made at the end of several hearings chaired by the Deputy State Attorney, in which the relevant parties participated in the State Attorney's Office and the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office (criminal), and after examining the investigation materials, a number of investigative completions were made.

The Deputy State Attorney adopted the recommendation of the Tel Aviv District Attorney (Criminal), the Deputy State Attorney (Criminal Affairs) and the Director of the Criminal Department of the State Attorney's Office, according to which, despite the difficulties and complexity of this case, there is a reasonable chance of conviction. The matter is justified to seek to amend the indictment.

It is the duty of the prosecution to re-evaluate the evidentiary situation at every stage, as was done in this case as well, when it was decided to go to court and seek to amend the indictment.

The case is being conducted behind closed doors and under a restraining order, and as a result the request and the amended indictment cannot be submitted at this stage, and we will not be able to provide further details.

As you may recall, last month a complaint was filed against Sharaf for raping a 13-year-old girl day after day, and he was arrested.

The girl said she refused him and Sharaf hit and strangled her.

Police said they had correspondence in which the girl told him not to come to her room, and they claimed the incident was coercive and violent.
