In a special kind of bachelor's party, 46 graduates of the social work, religious education and church educational work at the Catholic Foundation University (KSH) in Benediktbeuern were bid farewell.

Benediktbeuern

- Despite the distance, the celebrations were dignified and the graduates, who were connected via the internet, were given good luck and success on their important professional path.

The celebratory service in the basilica was zoomed live on the graduates' screens, reports Alexandra Hessler, KSH press spokeswoman in Benediktbeuern.

The students could contribute live.

For example, the intercessions were entered on the online service “Menti” and then appeared in real time on a large screen next to the altar.

Even Father Norbert Schützner had his smartphone in his hand: "That's quite unusual for me during a church service, but it's just like in real life."

The final meeting took place entirely in the virtual room, namely on the online platform “Gathertown”, where you could walk as an “avatar” across the monastery campus and meet other fellow students.

Champagne glasses were held in cameras to toast themselves with.

"The solemnly relaxed atmosphere was actually carried over to the Internet," reports Hessler.

"The most asked question was, 'How do you like the party?' And the answer was mostly: 'I'm surprised how lively it is'."

The organization team around Magdalena Mai and Oliver Adam had done a great job in a short time despite the uncertainty about the planning and, in consultation with the university management, put on a special celebration that will surely be fondly remembered, said Hessler: “There was a lot of music and To see video recordings of the students and pictures of graduates sitting at festive tables at home with their certificates sent in advance. "

Many of the bachelor theses this year deal with digital topics, reports Hessler and names among other things "The relevance of online counseling in social work using the example of Caritas Garmisch-Partenkirchen" or "Possibilities of digital technology for people with disabilities".

But there was also written on classic social work topics, such as “bereavement support for children and young people”.

Prof. Ursula Mosebach, chairwoman of the examination committee, praised the good performance, which followed on from the successes of other years.

And university president Professor Hermann Sollfrank was pleased that it was no problem for this year's graduates to find a good job.

“Skilled workers like you are urgently needed.” At the same time, he pointed out the deficits in the financial remuneration of professions in social work.

Dean of Studies Prof. Father Bernhard Vondrasek emphasized how important it is in the future work of the graduates to enable people to shape their own life well: The students themselves also drew a positive balance of their time on campus, in which they spent a lot learned about courage and commitment.

A freshly bachelor said: "Wherever there is racism, hatred, injustice, we can help to do something about it, we are needed."
