Seamless tracking could thus be possible - How exactly does the app work?

Nuremberg

- The city of Nuremberg * is the first city in Bavaria to use the so-called Luca app.

On Monday (March 22nd), the city signed a cooperation agreement with the provider of the app, according to a statement from the city.

The app serves to refine the contact tracking and to offer people more easily the opportunity to visit shops, restaurants or cultural events again if the Corona * lockdown is relaxed.

"The use of the app simplifies a step-by-step return to a more normal life in the city if all Corona hygiene requirements are complied with," says Mayor Marcus König.

“In a very short time, the city's IT experts, together with the app developers, succeeded in creating an interface to the health department.” The app can now be installed by citizens and is free of charge for everyone.

The users register in the app with their contact details.

For example, when they visit a restaurant or an event, they check in using a QR code with their mobile phone camera.

With this “check-in”, a “fingerprint” of the encounters within the location is created.

The app then saves the contact in a virtual box.

Only the health authorities can access this data.

In the event of infection, the health department requests the host or the organizer to check-ins and can then inform the contact person, as stated in the city's notification.

Check-out takes place either in the app or automatically when you move away from the check-in location.

This optional function ("geo-fencing") can be activated by operators and takes place by determining the location of the users.

Luca app also used in other cities

The Luca app was developed by the guys from the band “Die Fantastischen Vier” together with neXenio and culture4life.

The app has been on the market since the end of November and is already being used successfully in several other German cities.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will shortly be introducing it nationwide, as the pilot test in Rostock * was successful.

In Thuringia, after the test phase in Jena, a deployment in all 22 health authorities is planned.

A pilot project is also running in three health authorities in Baden-Württemberg.

"Complete tracking and interruption of infection chains is an important basic requirement for possible opening steps", says health officer Britta Walthelm.

The app could help to facilitate contact tracking and thus detect chains of infection at an early stage.

Private meetings can also be tracked with the app.

In the event of an infection, the app guarantees a secure and encrypted digital reporting chain to the health department.
