The marked acceleration noted since the last week of February in mortality in Brazil is explained by the lack of respect for barrier gestures and health measures and by the rapid spread of the Amazonian variant P1, which would be more contagious and more deadly.

Some 84,245 new contaminations in 24 hours were also reported by the ministry, a high figure which confirms the current virulence of the epidemic.

Brazil had registered more than 100,000 new cases of Covid-19 for the first time on Thursday in 24 hours.

Brazil is the country with the highest number of coronavirus deaths and infections after the United States.

The vaccination campaign is very slow.

In just over two months, only 6% of the 212 million Brazilians received a first dose and 2% both.

Only two vaccines are used, that of Oxford / AstraZeneca and CoronaVac, from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac.

On Friday, the authorities of the State of Sao Paulo and then Brasilia announced promising preclinical tests for several 100% Brazilian vaccines which should make it possible to accelerate the vaccination campaign.
