The National Electoral Institute (INE) canceled the registration of the candidacy of Félix Salgado Macedonio and five other candidates for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party in the state of Guerrero.

The move is because they did not submit their pre-campaign spending report.

The INE, through its Oversight Commission, determined the sanction for the 2020-2021 electoral process in the state.

Additionally, the INE imposed an economic fine on the Morena party for the equivalent of almost US $ 329,000 for the omission of the income and expense reports of its candidates.

On Thursday, during a campaign event in the state of Guerrero, Félix Salgado Macedonio said that he will challenge the resolution and that they will win the governorship.

This Friday, Salgado Macedonio assured on social networks: «We tell the INE that he was wrong.

The maximum penalty of withdrawing our candidacy for the state government is rude and arbitrary, a sign that we are stronger than ever.

On March 4, the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of Guerrero had endorsed the candidacy of Salgado Macedonio for the governorship of this state.

The politician registered his candidacy for Morena on February 15, but his candidacy was criticized by feminist movements in Mexico after Salgado Macedonio was accused of sexual abuse by at least two women.

CNN has sought the politician's reaction to those allegations, but has repeatedly said he would not give interviews.

On March 13, at the launch of his campaign in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood in Acapulco, later shared on social networks, Salgado Macedonio referred to these accusations:

“As the only and last time, I will make a public statement.

Until today, I have been the object of a political and media lynching without any precedent in the history of Mexico.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who belongs to the same party, dismissed the accusations against Salgado Macedonio and attributed it to maneuvers typical of electoral times.

He also downplayed a campaign that on social media used the hashtag #RompaElPacto, saying it was an imported slogan, and that it demanded that he stop supporting candidates accused of violence against women or sexual abuse.
