The corona vaccine from the manufacturer Astrazeneca is making headlines again, now three countries are changing their recommendations.

The vaccine should be used especially in older people.

Stockholm - While the corona virus continues to spread in Germany and around the world, the vaccine from the manufacturer Astrazeneca just can't get out of the headlines.

While the vaccine can apparently very rarely have serious side effects, the recommendation for certain age groups also causes confusion time and again.

While the corona vaccine should not initially be inoculated to older people, because the protection of the elderly is too unsafe, Sweden is now changing its recommendation.

The vaccine is now to be used primarily in the elderly.

But Sweden is not alone in this, Finland and Iceland also want to use the vaccine from the Swedish-British manufacturer Astrazeneca initially only on older people.

"Astrazeneca is a very effective vaccine," said state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell on Thursday.

Older people have not seen so many serious side effects.

"That is why we recommend the vaccine for people who are 65 years old and older." Because there are serious cases in the younger age groups all over Europe, the corona vaccine will continue to be suspended for this group until more information is obtained.

Astrazeneca vaccine: Denmark extends vaccination break meanwhile

Like many other countries, Sweden stopped using the Astrazeneca drug after some people developed blood clots after vaccination.

A connection has not yet been proven.

After the European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded that the vaccine was safe, most countries resumed vaccination with the drug.

Denmark announced on Thursday that it would extend the vaccination break by three weeks.

Two employees of a hospital were previously seriously ill after being vaccinated with the vaccine, one of the two people died shortly afterwards.

And Austria had reported several cases of seriously ill hospital staff at the beginning of the month, a nurse died after being vaccinated with the Astrazeneca active ingredient.

An obvious connection was confirmed a few days ago.
