The attack on the Iranian ship in the Mediterranean Sea earlier this month was a response by Israel to the Israeli ship's damage to the Red Sea last month, an Israeli source told the New York Times, which today (Friday) revealed new details about the recent Israeli-Iranian naval campaign. From the shadows.
This is a day after another Israeli-owned ship was hit by an Iranian missile in the Arabian Sea.
The ship, Shahar al-Kurd, was hit about 80 kilometers off the coast of Israel, and Iranian officials said at the time that it appeared to be an Israeli attack, possibly from the air. According to a report in the New York Times, which joins Wall Street Journal and Western media Others on the Naval Battle Since Israel, Israel has been attacking ships carrying Iranian oil and weapons through the Red Sea and the Mediterranean since 2019
.
It may even make it harder for the Biden administration to persuade Iran to return to complying with the restrictions on the nuclear deal, in exchange for lifting sanctions.

The Israeli naval campaign, whose existence has been approved by the New York Times by American, Israeli and Iranian officials, is intended to narrow Tehran's influence in the Middle East and undermine its attempts to circumvent US sanctions on its oil industry.
A U.S. official and a former senior Israeli official said that since 2019, Israeli commando forces have attacked at least ten ships carrying Iranian cargo.
An Iranian oil ministry official, an adviser to the ministry and an oil trader said their numbers could be as high as 20.
According to a US source and two senior Israeli officials, most of the ships transported oil from Iran to Syria, and two of them carried weapons.
An American source and an Israeli source said that Sahar-a-Kurd had transferred military equipment on the way to Syria, where Israel is working to prevent Iranian military unrest.
The battle between the wars expanded from the air and land to the sea as well.

It is not clear to some of the damage to ships Iran has so far responded to, but it appears to have stepped up its operations recently.
According to the report, the ship "Helios Ray", owned by Israeli businessman Rami Unger, was attacked by an Iranian commando force, which followed it on a speedboat in the Egyptian region of Hormuz off the coast of Iran.
They attached two naval mines with the stern suspension mechanism of the vessel, which led German-made cars to China.
According to a source close to the investigation, about 20 minutes later, the mines exploded and two holes were made in the side of the ship.
Several tankers have been similarly attacked in the Red Sea in recent months, with actions attributed to some of the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Official Iran denies involvement in all of these actions, including the attack on Helios Ray, and like Israel, it appears it is not interested in sinking the ships but in sending a message.
"This is an all-out cold war, which could turn into a war in the event of a single mistake," said Ali Varaz, director of Iran's program at the International Crisis Group, an organization based in Brussels that deals with conflict research.
"We are still in a cycle of escalation that could get out of hand."
