Moroccan justice sentenced a Moroccan-American YouTuber to three months in prison for videos critical of the Moroccan government, according to his family.

Known under the pseudonym "

" (a country man in America), Chakib Omerani, who for years posted videos critical of King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan authorities, was sentenced on Thursday for "
contempt of constitutional institutions
" .

" Mohamed Omerani wrote on Thursday on his Facebook account, specifying that the Casablanca court of first instance had imposed a fine of 42,000 dirhams (around 4,000 euros) on his sentence.
The YouTuber was arrested in early February on his arrival at Rabat airport from the United States, where he resides, because "
wanted for his alleged involvement in criminal acts
", according to the press release.
He has since been remanded in custody.
An unprecedented fact, the Moroccan police and the two intelligence services, external and internal, announced at the end of December that they had filed a complaint for "
contempt
" against "
persons established abroad
", according to a joint statement.
This complaint, which did not mention any name, concerned "
insult to incumbent public officials and to the constituted bodies
" but also "
slanderous denunciations of fictitious crimes
", "
defamation
" and "
dissemination of allegations and false facts
", according to the press release.
