The Architect of Failure: The lame duck who managed to thwart Netanyahu's efforts

The fact that Netanyahu was unable to reach 61 under the ideal conditions set for him by reality is inconceivable.

Although the Likud insists on his eulogy, Saar made a crucial contribution to the failure.

And what does that say about Bennett's Balfour dream?

Missed under optimal conditions.

This morning's full column in Maariv for

Benjamin Netanyahu was a one-time opportunity to overthrow, once and for all, Israeli democracy.

But he lost.

Yes, Bibi lost the election (but not yet the government).

It reached March 23 in optimal condition.

The phenomenal vaccination campaign, the opening of the economy, the restaurants, cafes and hotels on the eve of the election, the mood, the optimism.

Elections, like economics, are a story of mood and even the great leftists were swept away by the euphoria of leaving the corona the week before the polls opened.

But there was something else, even more dramatic: the Arabs of Israel.

These guys, who will never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity, did not come to the polls.

They went down from 15 seats to ten seats.

The change bloc lost five net seats.

All Netanyahu had to do was score this assist in front of an empty net.

But he missed.

Or rather, restrained.

The goalkeeper who stood at this gate is called Gideon Saar.

As a die-hard fan of the Argentine national football team, Saar has adopted the nickname "Filiol" for himself in the last few days since the election, after Obaldo Filiol, the legendary goalkeeper of this team.

He halted Netanyahu's scoring attempts as Philiol locked Argentina's goal and River Plate at the time.

The problem with Philiol is that his nickname was "El Pato".

"The Duck", in Hebrew.

Here, too, there is a match: Saar emerged from the election as a lame duck, but it is the deadliest and most dangerous lame duck in the duck.

He has been eulogized in recent days by every leper.

The bibbists recite that a storm is over, a storm has crashed, a storm needs to go home.

Well, anyone who knows Saar knows he's closer to sending Bibi home than going home himself.

He, at home, was already there.

Lame and deadly duck.

Saar (Photo: Official website, New Hope)

It's not that he did not crash.

The crash of New Hope was glorious and spectacular.

From 21 seats in the polls to six seats in the ballot box.

The story of Yitzhak Mordechai and his party in '99, one by one.

But Mordechai was the one who crushed Netanyahu in that television confrontation, the one who broke through the wall, the one who prepared the hearts for the defeat that Ehud Barak inflicted on Bibi.

Saar, this time, was the one who peeled five seats from Netanyahu.

The analysis clearly indicates: the mandates of the assault, they tended Likud, plus representatives M"dofn right "of the Blue and White Memorial.

The fact that Netanyahu failed to reach 61 home turf and under laboratory conditions arranged for him reality is perceived. Saar and contributed her new hope A decisive contribution. When he took off for 21 seats, Saar knew that the center leftists parked in his parking lot. He knew they would slowly trickle back home, but he did not believe that they would abandon him until the last of them. They realized that he was no longer a candidate for prime minister. After all that, he brought the six missing seats to Bibi's dismantling

. Some went to Smutrich, some to Saar, and some more simply did not come. The Likudniks proved that they are much smarter than those who try to wash their brains. Not all of them are full-fledged bibists. And their friends, there is still something to sell.

The dream conflicts with the national interest.

Bennett (Photo: Official Website, Ariel Zandberg)

Saar has been wandering in the political desert since 2014, when he retired from the Netanyahu government.

"I resigned before he fired you," Yair Lapid once said.

He has been walking in this wilderness for seven years.

This week he came to the oasis.

This is not what he planned.

He had two tasks: to remove Netanyahu from power and become a legitimate candidate for prime minister.

In the first mission, he succeeded.

In a second, he failed.

If he could choose which of these tasks was more important, he would choose the first.

Few know better than him how dangerous bibism is to Israel.

He was there, the closest.

He is the one who held Netanyahu's hand in the twilight of the first term.

He is the one who held his hand in the 12-seat farce of 2006. He is the one who dismantled coalitions for him and formed governments for him.

This does not absolve him of responsibility for the very unsuccessful campaign that has run a new hope for the past two months.

His refusal to accept the offer he received up the road, to unite with Bnei Gantz, to give the chief of staff second place and run together, was puzzling. Nobody Netanyahu is afraid of more Saar. he knows his political abilities if he is joined by a weasel named Ze'ev Elkin, get trouble. Saar connected to the ultra-Orthodox, is connected to the torch, is connected to Lieberman and Naftali Bennett.

Bennett is holding the keys. he built himself for love of country Patriotism erupts, in the positive sense of the word. The fact that the Netanyahu bloc lost will make it easier for him to make the decision he is supposed to make: join a civilian change government while maintaining a political status quo. In Balfour and being accepted into the Likud clashes here with the national interest of the state, one has to hope that he will make the right decision.
