To continue its action of music education with a social vocation, the initiative is seeking 50,000 euros and calls for the generosity of the public.

New crowdfunding campaign for the Maîtrise populaire.

This training created in 2016 within the Opéra-Comique, which intends to make music accessible through an

“adapted pedagogy”

far from the traditional codes of the conservatory, appeals to the generosity of the public.

According to Camille Claverie, responsible for sponsorship at the Opéra-Comique, the year was

"very special"

for this training, which was made up of 60% of students from establishments classified as REP (priority education networks) and REP +.

Despite the successive curfews and confinements, classes have never stopped for these students who are learning singing, dancing and performing in parallel with their studies.

But the “masters” were deprived of a stage.

However, performing in front of an audience is "

an integral part

" of the project.

A large part of the students' artistic learning is dedicated to the importance of the stage, where they normally perform once a month,

” says Camille Claverie.

Dependence on patronage

The Maîtrise populaire, which depends 70% on sponsorship, is suffering from the health crisis.

If during the past year, almost all of the Opéra-Comique's productions have been maintained, it is mainly thanks to exceptional funds from the Ministry of Culture and patronage.

"

We rely a lot on corporate sponsorship and for some the agreement expired at the end of 2020 and which could not be renewed due to budgetary difficulties

," says Camille Claverie.

More than ever, we need support both for the control and for the financing of this show.

"

The year 2020 was nevertheless full of promises.

In May, the pupils had to take up Jacques Offenbach's magical opera

Le Voyage dans la Lune

.

All the main roles were dedicated to the “masters”, “

a great first

”.

Laurent Pelly, prestigious director, supervised them.

An “

incredible human experience

” for the students.

"

It was the first time that the Opéra-Comique trusted children who are not yet professionals to ensure one of the seven programs of the year

", underlines Camille Claverie.

But this flagship project had to be postponed because of the sanitary situation, the rooms not having reopened before June 2020. The show was postponed to this year, and should in principle be played on stage from April 18.

But the deterioration of the health situation compromises the presence of the public during performances.

Whatever the modalities of the shows, the main thing is now that they can take place.

Our desire is that they go on stage no matter what, since the project is really close to their hearts,”

explains Camille Claverie.

More than ever, we need support both for the mastery and for the financing of this show

. ”

The campaign has raised more than 37,000 euros, and the goal is to reach 50,000.

Donations can range from 15 to 2,500 euros, and “

everyone is welcome

” according to Camille Claverie.

Donors will have the privilege of being at the forefront during the

Voyage to the Moon

of these “masters”.

They will follow them, from their first performances on stage to their prestigious moon landing: the broadcast of the show on France Télévisions, scheduled in a few months.

The “Growing Up on Stage” campaign is open until April 30.
