Much to the regret of the ice hockey Bayern league club ESC Geretsried, David Albanese will no longer be available in the future.

The goalkeeper was a bank for the River Rats for eight years.

  • Without David Albanese, ESC Geretsried has to plan the coming season.

  • The 34-year-old goalkeeper joined the River Rats from Holzkirchen in 2012.

  • In his career he played over 200 games in the ESC jersey and was on the ice for about 11,000 minutes.

Geretsried - This compliment was a tough one.

With a 6: 4 against old master EV Füssen, the Geretsrieder ice hockey team made it into the play-off quarter-finals of the Bayernliga perfect.

David Albanese played a major role in this greatest success to date since the ESC was founded.

"For me he is the goalkeeper of the year in the Bayern League", stated after the match none other than Thomas Zellhuber, Füssen's trainer and a bank himself for years as a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga.

It is all the more regrettable that the goalie, who was a bank for the River Rats for eight years, is now ending his career.

“Unfortunately, Dave surprised me with his intention.

And it could be seen from the conversation that he was very far in his decision, ”reports Peter Holdschik.

The Albaneses plan should be respected, "even if it naturally leaves a large gap," said the second chairman.

The now 34-year-old comes from the offspring of EC Bad Tölz, played with the U16s in the school league and the U18s in the DNL.

In the men's area, Albanese was in the box of the national division ESC Holzkirchen from 2006 to 2011.

After a season with the Tölzer 1b team, the keeper switched to ESC Geretsried, at that time in the national league at the start.

In 2015, the team made it to the Bayern League, not least thanks to their goalie.

Albanese was initially the undisputed number one, but since 2017 he has shared the job between the posts after Martin Morczinietz returned to his hometown club.

The long-time DEL and second division goalkeeper once described the relationship with one another with a smile: "That fits very well, but we're both a bit older and more mature."

Tom Kinzl also regrets that Albanese ends his career after a total of more than 200 games and thus around 11,000 minutes on the ice.

"Some of the attackers have broken their teeth on David," the ESC spokesman clarifies.

With his excellent performance, the native of Tölz gave his team support even in difficult phases.

Due to his sympathetic and open manner, the goalkeeper was very popular with the fans, and after the final siren he also demonstrated his dancing skills on the ice to thunderous applause.

In a different way, “Dave” will have to prove himself at home in the future: The 34-year-old and his partner are expecting offspring this summer.
