MTR will announce the results of fare adjustments next Monday (29th). The Legislative Council Member Tian Beichen predicts that MTR will have the opportunity to lower the fares under the "additional or subtractive" mechanism for the first time.

Tian Beichen explained that the "plus or minus" mechanism equation is calculated based on the composite consumer price index in December last year and the change in the transportation industry's nominal wage index in the fourth quarter of last year. If the decrease is more than 1.5%, the price will be reduced.

He also said that in December last year, the Composite Consumer Price Index fell by 0.7% year-on-year. As long as the nominal wage index of the transportation industry fell by more than 1.1% in the fourth quarter of last year, the MTR would have to cut prices.

Tian Beichen said that he is quite confident in the MTR's "breakthrough" fare reduction, and it is estimated that the fare will be reduced by 1.5-1.6%.
