Independent play wins against blockbuster.

"Hades" created a surprise on Thursday evening at the Bafta ceremony devoted to video games.

He won the majority of awards, including the title of "Best Game", nose and beard of the giant with 14 nominations "The Last of Us Part II".

Famous as British awards dedicated to cinema and series, the Bafta have also dedicated a ceremony to video games since 2004.

Ten and fifteen years before the birth of their American and French counterparts (“The Game awards” and the “Pegasus”) they each year distinguish the best productions in the video game industry.

For the second time, in a health context, the Bafta took place entirely online.

Here it is!

Among the top trio with its nine nominations, the game for PC and Nintendo Switch console "Hades", developed by the independent Californian studio Supergiant Games, created a surprise by winning no less than five awards during this 17th edition.

His critical success with the public for several months, however, could suggest that he would not leave without a nice reward.

Four other awards

Sacred “Best game” of the year, this isometric 3D action role-playing game (action-RPG) also received the prize for best story, best game-design (general architecture of the game), the best artistic achievement and the best performance in a supporting role.

With a character design (the drawing and the psychology of the characters) polished and dungeons which follow one another at random, “Hades” skillfully revisits Greek mythology.

The player plays there Zagreus, prince of the Underworld and son of Hades, who tries to flee the Kingdom of the dead, carefully choosing the help of several deities.

The studio also “congratulated” the other nominees in the “Best Player” category: “their work has inspired us for a long time.

It is an honor to be in the same category ”.

This title released in June 2020 on PlayStation 4 was a big favorite, with no less than 14 nominations in 11 categories.

It was an all-time high in Bafta history, previously held by the games "Control" and "Death Stranding" with their 11 nominations the previous year.

“The Last of Us Part II” must finally be satisfied with three awards: the prestigious award for best animation, that for best performance in a leading role and the audience award (“EE Game of the year”).

One award for "Ghost of Tsushima" none for "Cyberpunk 2077"

For this new opus, the Californian studio Naughty Dog (a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment) has chosen to be part of the continuity.

We find Ellie, the heroine of the first episode, released in 2013. In a post-apocalyptic setting, the young lesbian woman, now 19, is still fighting for her survival, whose blood could save humanity ravaged after a pandemic caused by fungi.

Big disappointment also for the open-world action game (a large open world where the player moves freely) "Ghost of Tsushima".

On the heels of “The Last of Us” with its 11 nominations, the latest Sucker Punch Productions, set in feudal Japan of the Kamakura era (from a little before to a little after the 13th century), is back. only with the prize for “best sound production”.

The eagerly awaited but also much criticized "Cyberpunk 2077" left completely empty-handed, despite its four nominations.
