The number of traffic accidents in the area of responsibility of the Police Inspection Germering (PI) fell by almost 15 percent to 1928 in the previous year.

Germering

- The corona lockdowns in the first year of the pandemic led to an overall decrease in the number of accidents.

However, the police recorded more accidents with personal injuries for Germering, Puchheim, Gilching, Eichenau and Alling.

The current PI accident statistics show an increase from ten injuries to 279.

In addition to 34 seriously injured people, there was also one fatality - a 22-year-old from Puchheim had strayed from the lane on the B2 and rushed into an oncoming car in his VW.

The number of escapes from accidents also decreased in the previous year, from 586 to 475. 170 of these incidents were cleared up.

On the other hand, there was an increase in alcohol-related accidents from 21 to 27. There were significantly fewer drivers involved in accidents under the influence of drugs: in 2019 there were five, in 2020 only one.

The safety on the way to school has remained unchanged compared to 2019.

The police recorded only three cases in 2020 in which children were injured on the way to school.

Young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 were involved in 135 of all accidents.

That is 13 less than a year earlier.

However, the novice drivers were more often the cause of these crashes (80 instead of 68).

As in 2019, however, there were no incidents among participants in the accompanied driving.

The trend in accidents among older people aged 65 and over is striking.

In the case of motorists, their participation fell by around 16 percent.

As cyclists, on the other hand, they had accidents much more often than in 2019: Here the police calculated an increase of almost 20 percent.

In 32 of the 49 incidents, the elderly were the culprits.

It was also evident across all age groups: three quarters of the cyclists were to blame.

There were a total of 149 accidents in which cyclists were involved - 15 rode pedelecs or e-bikes.

From the point of view of the police, the pandemic also had an impact on the driving style of road users.

Because there was less going on on the roads, many were tempted to drive fast.

Consequence: The cause of the accident “inappropriate speed” rose by 35 percent to 23. This was also evident in the speed controls carried out by the law enforcement officers: there were fewer complaints overall.

The number of those who have to expect a driving ban increased significantly.
