Max Verstappen will start from pole position in the Bahrain Grand Prix this Sunday (5 p.m.) after setting the fastest qualifying time ahead of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who falls nearly four hundredths behind his announced rival.

The Briton is ahead of his team-mate Vallteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc, who illustrates the progress of the Ferrari, while Carlos Sainz will start 8th.

Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) will start in third row, accompanied by Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), who is just ahead of his partner Lando Norris. 

Esteban Ocon (Alpine, 16th) was hampered by a yellow flag and was unable to extricate himself from Q3, as was Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin, 18th).

Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin's two Haas bring up the rear.
