More than half of the Bundeswehr members of the Franz Josef Strauss barracks in Altenstadt have been vaccinated against Corona in the past two weeks. More than half of the Bundeswehr members of the Franz Josef Strauss barracks in Altenstadt have been vaccinated against Corona in the past two weeks.

Astrazeneca was apparently injected sporadically to people from priority group 3. The 462 doses come from the vaccination center in Peißenberg, which they offered to the barracks.

Altenstadt - The delivery from Peißenberg to the Bundeswehr base in Altenstadt took place shortly before the federal government ordered the interim stop of vaccinations with the active ingredient Astrazeneca.

Although the agent can be kept for weeks, "we are required to inoculate it promptly," explained Christian Achmüller on request.

According to the head of the Peißenberg vaccination center, 400 doses were initially available, which he was able to dispense with “a clear conscience”.

The rest was delivered later.

"At the time we had 1,600 vaccine doses in stock and we had scheduling problems," said Achmüller.

The district wanted all over 80 year olds to be vaccinated this week

As reported, the district wanted all of its citizens who can be found in priority group one to be vaccinated against Corona this week.

These include above all those over 80.

From next week it will also be the turn of the over 70s.

According to the federal government's vaccination sequence, their priority (two) includes, for example, police and emergency services who are exposed to a high risk of infection during demonstrations.

This also includes soldiers "who are exposed to a high risk of infection when deployed abroad".

Vaccination center manager: Vaccinations of people in the barracks with priority 3 "justifiable"

Achmüller sees the majority of the Bundeswehr members who have now been vaccinated for the first time in Altenstadt as having vaccination priority one and two.

Among other things, he names medical assistants (priority 1) and soldiers in collective accommodation (priority 2).

Achmüller assumes that people with priority 3 were also vaccinated in the barracks.

That is also "justifiable", he thinks.

You don't have to “drive around” because of ten to 20 doses, according to the vaccination center boss.

And: The Bundeswehr gladly took the Astrazeneca.

In Peißenberg you often have to have ten-minute discussions about the vaccine.

Bundeswehr thanks the land traveler and the vaccination center

The site elder in Altenstadt, Sven Tillery, expressly thanks the head of the vaccination center in Peißenberg and the Weilheim-Schongau district office "for the consideration and the extremely fast and good cooperation".

The authority and vaccination center had therefore submitted the offer to Tillery with the vaccination doses against Covid-19, the Bundeswehr location had accepted it.

According to the site elder, an immediate prioritization then took place.

The Corona Protection Ordinance was strictly observed.

Soldiers and civil employees received vaccinations

As the lieutenant colonel explains, on the basis of the prioritization, 462 members of the armed forces at the site were vaccinated by March 24th.

594 were willing to vaccinate.

The syringes were set by employees of the medical supply center.

The vaccinated are both active soldiers and civil employees who, according to the prioritization, are entitled to receive a vaccination.

Health department did not know about vaccine delivery

According to press spokesman Hans Rehbehn, the health department in Weilheim was not aware of the vaccinations in the Altenstadt barracks.

“The Bundeswehr is beyond our jurisdiction.

It has its own doctors and its own contingent of vaccines, ”the authority announced.

District Administrator: "We need every dose"

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß said she knew about the delivery of the Astrazeneca cans to the barracks.

At the beginning of the week, however, she made it clear to the local newspaper: “We need every dose.” The vaccination sequence should be adhered to, “I attach great importance to it,” emphasized Jochner-Weiß.

Soldiers tolerated vaccination well - common side effects

What is certain is that those vaccinated in the barracks will receive their second dose of Astrazeneca after eleven to twelve weeks.

According to Achmüller, the second vaccination takes place automatically, no proof of priority is required.

The soldiers tolerated the first syringe with the Astrazeneca material.

Sometimes the usual side effects occurred, explains press officer Tim Reinhold.

They ranged from pressure at the injection site to short-term fever.
