The annual "Earth Hour" hosted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) will be held today (27th) at 8:30 p.m. to encourage families and businesses to turn off unnecessary lights and power-consuming products for one hour that night. Take action to deal with the problem of global warming.

In Hong Kong, many buildings and businesses participated this year. Many attractions including the Central Waterfront Ferris Wheel and the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower have also added "lights off".

To support environmental protection, the bright lights on both sides of the Victoria Harbour are gradually dimming today.

Buildings account for about 90% of Hong Kong's electricity consumption. The theme of "Earth Hour" in Hong Kong this year is "Lighting the Future of the Ocean", calling on citizens to protect the health of the ocean together.

The Tourism Commission also announced today that in response to the event, the "Symphony of Lights" light and music show will be suspended tonight and the show will be staged tomorrow night (28th) as usual.

Stepping into 8:30 in the evening, many landmark buildings in Hong Kong, such as the first and second phases of the International Finance Center, Bank of China Tower, HSBC Headquarters Building, Tsing Ma Bridge, etc., turned off all non-essential lights for one hour; Attractions include the Central Waterfront Ferris Wheel, and the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower also participated in the activities. The clock tower seems to disappear in the dark after the "lights off".

On weekdays, the lights on both sides of the Victoria Harbour are dazzling. Today, I’m not going to see the bright night scenes. After turning off the non-essential lights of the buildings, only a little light remains, which looks like twinkling stars from a distance.

After the "lights off", Victoria Harbour lacks the reflection of the building lights, and it suddenly becomes dark, but it also adds a sense of tranquility.

By 9:30 p.m., all buildings were "lighted up" one after another.

The Hong Kong branch of the World Wide Fund for Nature stated that nearly 4,000 companies, institutions and buildings in Hong Kong participated in this year's lights-out activities.

WWF hopes to use this action to call on the public, all walks of life and enterprises to take immediate action to change their daily life and business models.

WWF Hong Kong Branch Chief Executive Mr. Jiang Weizhi said in his welcome speech at the event broadcast on the Internet, "Earth Hour" is not just a one-hour event, but a symbol of the determination to protect the earth.

He also called on the public to take positive actions to make Hong Kong a more livable and sustainable city.

Since the "Earth Hour" campaign was first launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007, more than 180 countries and regions have responded to jointly take concrete actions to alleviate climate change.

Hong Kong started participating in 2009, and it is the 12th year that it has been held.
