The FEHD stated that two people were arrested during the operation, suspected of operating unlicensed restaurants in two barbecue venues. The department initiated prosecution procedures and seized relevant tools and a total of 83 kilograms of barbecued food.

Since January this year, FEHD officers have filed 11 prosecutions against the person in charge of an unlicensed barbecue site at Kau Wah Lane, including 6 arrests.

In addition, under Chapter 599F of the Regulation, no more than four people can sit at the same table in the catering premises. The FEHD initiated prosecution procedures against a person in charge of a barbecue site.

The police also issued fine notices to 32 barbecue shop customers in accordance with Chapter 599G of the regulations, accusing them of violating the gathering restriction order.

FEHD: Strict enforcement will continue

A spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said that strict enforcement actions will continue to crack down on unlicensed food premises.

According to the Food Business Regulation (Chapter 132X), it is an offence for anyone to operate a food business without a license; upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

In addition, if the person in charge of the catering business violates the Regulations, upon conviction, he can also be fined up to 50,000 yuan and imprisoned for six months.

The spokesman emphasized that the FEHD will continue to step up inspections of catering premises in various districts in Hong Kong and take joint actions with the police as necessary to ensure that the persons in charge of catering operations and the public strictly abide by the relevant regulations, and will also take enforcement actions against offenders.
