This evening, at the Dar Al Thaqafa Palace theater in Homs, the International Day of Theater was celebrated with a large audience.
Amin Roumieh, head of the Artists Syndicate branch in Homs, explained that the playwrights in this governorate participate with their counterparts all over Syria and the world at large, celebrating an occasion that we wait every year to demand the strengthening of the role of theater so that its roots remain and ignite because it is the spark that inspires people and incites them to creativity and giving.
Roumieh emphasized that what distinguishes the city of Homs is that it was able to turn the celebration of the World Theater Day into a theatrical festival in which performances are presented over the course of a week, through the existing cooperation between the Culture Directorate, the Directorate of Theaters and Music and all institutions concerned with cultural affairs, where six performances have been selected that deserve to be presented on stage. The theater artist, Tamam Al-Awani, delivered the speech of the global theater by the English artist Helen Mirren, which dealt with the impact of the Corona pandemic in the world on the live performing arts and ways to confront those working in it for the effects of this phenomenon on their work and their creation of creative, entertaining and influential ways to be able to communicate with the world, especially via the Internet.
Al-Awani believed that theater is a cultural phenomenon in the city of Homs, and that it is not interrupted, and people communicate with it, makes it a cultural issue that is succeeded by new generations, because theater is a state of civilized enlightenment and it is the backbone of all cultures.
After that, the Seville group "Bar Association" presented a theatrical performance by Anton Chekhov entitled "The Wedding" directed by Fahd Al-Rahmoun, in which he addressed the absence of moral values in societies that are now living in appearances and scales to appear as one of the owners of luxurious and velvety layers, which caused the failure of the wedding to constitute a projection of what our youth live. Because of the many temptations of life.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of World Theater Day will continue until the second of next April.
