In the Corona winter, cross-country skiing was a welcome change for many.
The conditions for this at Tegernsee are still good.
Nevertheless, the cross-country season is now coming to an end.
Kreuth / Rottach-Egern
- The extensive snowfalls in March gave the cross-country skiers the best conditions again towards the end of winter.
In the southern district of Kreuth - between Wildbad Kreuth and Glashütte - as well as on the Sutten in Rottach-Egern, the trails are still passable and in good shape.
Nevertheless, the season is slowly coming to an end - and not just because of the rising temperatures.
Mayor of Rottach: "Have to allow nature the necessary rest"
From April 1st, the tracks may no longer be groomed with the tracking device.
“This is how we agreed with the property owners,” explains Kreuth's mayor, Josef Bierschneider.
The vegetation on the private meadows and pastures, over which the cross-country trails lead to a large extent, should be given the opportunity to relax.
On the Sutten, where the snow conditions would presumably allow cross-country skiing well beyond March, the fact that the routes lead through nature conservation and FFH areas makes things even more difficult.
"We have to give nature the necessary rest," explains City Hall boss Christian Köck and adds: "The winter was long enough."
The Kreuth community received a lot of thank you emails and positive feedback
The balance of the cross-country skiing season this Corona winter is positive in both communities.
“I think we were able to offer a good service,” says Köck.
The people would have gladly accepted the offer to be able to exercise in the fresh air here despite the pandemic.
His colleague, beer cutter, has had similar experiences.
Overall, the cross-country season was very good, he says.
"We have received positive feedback from the people." Many would have thanked for the well-groomed trails, the mayor is happy to say.
