For his first participation in the World Match Play Championship which takes place in Austin (Texas), Victor Perez continues to amaze and could win, if he goes to the end of the dream this Sunday, the most beautiful victory of his young career.

Since he started his professional career, Victor Perez has shown his determination and seriousness.

Step by step, the Tarbais is building a game and track record (victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Carnoustie) which allow it to be placed today in 33rd position in the world ranking.

He is now the second French player to reach the semi-finals of WGC-Match Play after Victor Dubuisson in 2014.

First qualified

Admirable mastery this Saturday, the French (33emondial) dominated the Scots MacIntyre (5 & 4) in the round of 16 before eliminating Sergio Garcia (4 & 3) in the quarters.

First qualified, he reached the semi-finals of this second world championship of the calendar year which brings together the best 64 golfers, in a knockout format until the final.

The first-timer is making a charge.

Very lucid in his strategic choices and impressive in his attacks on the greens, Victor Perez (28) took the ascendancy against Sergio Garcia from hole 6, leading the score and then relentlessly widening the gap over the blows.

On hole 14, this par 4 on which players reach the green from the first shot by flying over a body of water over 300 meters, he was able to take advantage of the ball in the water of the Spaniard.

With a three-hole lead (3 up) at the start of the 15th, his full-track throw-in, followed by a 90-meter wedge at the flag, sealed the match while Garcia was at fault on his second shot.

In total control, the French therefore shook hands with the winner of the Augusta 2017 Masters at the exit of the green, after a final birdie.

In the wake of his top 10 in the Players Championship, the French number one, who should have played the 2020 edition, had inherited, arriving at the Austin Country Club, a qualifying pool a priori affordable.

Placed in the 16th and last group, he won his matches against Australian Marc Leishman (2 & 1) and South Korean Sungjae Im (2 & 1), but was beaten by American Russell Henley (4 & 3).

On Sunday, Victor Perez will face Billy Horschel in the semi-final (from 4 p.m. French time, live on Golf +).

The American qualified by beating Englishman Tommy Fleetwood on the 19th hole.

Billy Horschel is 34th in the world, one row behind Victor Perez.

The other semi-final will be 100% American, with Floridian Matt Kuchar (42) who will face his Texas compatriot Scottie Scheffler (24), born in Dallas and who studied at the University of Austin.
