The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform today approved the mixed-purpose goat breed at the Erra Research Station of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Sweida, during a tour of the Minister of Agriculture, Engineer Muhammad Hassan Qatana, to the station.

During the tour, a number of stakeholders explained the results of the production of a new breed of mountain and Shami goats carried out by the station through genetic mixing between "male and female mountain goats" to reach a "half mountain third generation" goat breed that has good genetic capabilities and good productivity with milk and meat.

In a statement to reporters, Minister Qatana indicated that the new breed is the first for mixed goats in Syria and is an important research achievement for the station team, pointing out the importance of the breed in terms of developing the production and productivity of Syrian goats and preserving the local veins distinguished by their productivity, resistance to conditions and their lesser needs for fodder.

The Director General of the General Authority for Scientific Agricultural Research, Dr. Magda Mufleh, indicated in a similar statement that the new breed is the product of more than 10 years of research teams working at the plant to produce a genetically stable hybrid race of goats with excellent specifications that carries the characteristics of the Levantine race in terms of "shape, productivity and domesticity" and race Mountainous in terms of "its tolerance to diseases and environmental conditions."

The Minister also briefed Qatana on a successful experience within the station to cultivate barley without soil within self-controlled rooms carried out by a research team with the aim of securing a permanent green fodder source throughout the year that is characterized by low cost and not a large consumption of resources and contributes to filling the shortage of fodder and limiting its import.

The Minister of Agriculture visited rural families working in the field of livestock breeding in the village of Rassas, as well as the Qatish facility for the manufacture of food products based on agricultural products in the city of Sweida, and heard from the project owners about the mechanism of work in them and the difficulties encountered in their work.

The Minister Qatana also inspected the reality of the wheat crop fields in the village of Al-Tha`la and listened to the farmers' demands and needs, which revolved around the establishment of an independent power line to feed the wells, increase the prices of wheat, and the development of a plan for the completion of agricultural roads, as well as the experience of the war-wounded in establishing a small agricultural project in the same village.

The tour was preceded by a meeting with those concerned with agricultural affairs, where their demands focused on increasing the number of wells for agricultural purposes and allocating fuel oil, supporting the Agriculture Directorate with heavy machinery, developing the work of agricultural production centers, and the necessity of establishing a silo in the town of Al-Mazraa, receiving barley by the General Fodder Corporation and establishing a laboratory for vital enemies in the Agricultural Scientific Research Center. .

During the meeting, Minister Qatna pointed to the importance of the agricultural sector in the governorate and the need to support it with heavy machinery for land reclamation and increasing fodder regulations, indicating that work will be done to repair idle wells and establish a specialized laboratory for the production of vital enemies of apples, with attention to establishing laboratories for examining apples, pointing out that the General Fodder Corporation has been directed to receive barley. From farmers.

The governor of Sweida, Hammam Sadiq Dibiyat, and the secretary of the Sweida branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Fouzat Choucair participated in the tour.
