The Arab Music Orchestra of the Solhi Al-Wadi Institute of Music has returned to the ancient ruins to revive its concerts during an evening hosted by the ancient Khan Asaad Pasha in the center of old Damascus today.

The evening program, led by musician Mahdi Al Mahdi, included a group of old, heritage and tarab songs, most of which were distributed by Al Mahdi, and members of the Arab Music Orchestra performed tunes by major Arab composers, including Muhammad Abdel Wahab, Omar Khairat, Muhammad Jabakji and Ziad Al-Rahbani.

The solo singing segment of the evening was presented by each of the students, Zain Ammar, for the song “Hawl Ya Ghanem” and “Madnak” by Omar Al Shalt, which was distributed by Amer Al Dakshli. As for the solo performance, it was through “Uncle Ahmed’s Case” solo piano performance by student Rita Madeouk and “Longa Nahavand “A single law for the two students Salma and Mays Khallouf.

The orchestra also performed popular acts for the audience, including brown, wheat and mousha when it seemed to end the evening with a traditional compass.

It is noteworthy that the Solhi Al-Wadi Institute for Music affiliated to the Ministry of Culture was established in 1960 under the name of the Arab Institute of Music, and its name was later changed to the Solhi Al-Wadi Institute in honor of its founder. The institute annually produces dozens of children and young people in the fields of playing various Arab and Western musical instruments and supplies the Higher Institute of Music with creative talents.
